Who the heck is Reneé Rapp?

I came across a tweet from Pop Crave that said Reneé Rapp is going to have the biggest pop album of 2023. I was so excited! Super happy for her! Then I thought, “Who’s Renee Rapp?”

She’s someone probably my generation and older have never heard of, and that’s true for me. No clue who she is. So I did a Google search and found out she’s an actress/singer and she’s into men/women. Is anyone surprised by that these days? Personal life aside, she released her first full length album just a few days ago and it’s getting great reviews online. Of course, who knows what kind of closed-door deals go on with labels, magazines, and websites, but I decided to listen to her top 5 tracks on Spotify. I wanted to know for myself if she’s going to be the next big artist of 2023.

Review. I listened to Too Well, Talk Too Much, Pretty Girls, Snow Angel, and In the Kitchen…. and I gotta say, I can totally understand how her music catches on with the 30-and-under crowd. Think about artists like Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, those types of lyrics. She sounds fine. I wouldn’t have a problem adding her to my Spotify beach playlist (I have 7 nieces under the age of 23, if that helps you understand the list a little better 😎). A few songs with the “explicit” marker which seems to be a goal of most female pop artists these days, 99% of the lyrics are safe but they throw in the f word for some street cred, I guess. How chic.

I’m clearly not her target audience and I’m totally fine with that. The music is professionally produced, lyrics seem to be genuine and creative. Five songs was enough for me, though. I wish her well and hope she finds success, happiness, and keeps doing what she enjoys!
