The iPad Crushes in New Ad – The Music and More!

Apple is known for their quirky, indie-style ads that appeal to the creative folks out there. They often pick songs that only die-hard fans of whatever band it is have heard before and when they see the commercial, they comment about how happy they are that Apple would choose whatever obscure song it is. Well, there’s a new iPad so that means there’s a new commercial… and a song only a few will know. Check it out then scroll down for more info!

The Music. Have you heard of Sonny and Cher? Well, we all know Cher, one of just a handful of artists who are known by just one name. But back in the day she was part of Sonny and Cher with probably their biggest hit, “I Got You, Babe.” But they sang other songs, too! Crazy. One of those other ones is the one in the ad and it goes back over 50 years. It’s called “All I Ever Need Is You.” Here’s the full track…

I didn’t know that there are multiple versions of this song. Another notable one is by Kenny Rogers and Dottie West, also from the 1970s. It also reached #1 on a Billboard list, just like Sonny and Cher’s did.

Controversy. In the ad, creative tools get crushed and some viewers are equating that with the elimination of the hopes and dreams of all kinds of artists. Technology *cough artificial intelligence cough, cough* has a way of ruining things, doesn’t it? It wasn’t too long ago that the cell phone was supposed to make life easier, less busy. But we’re all seeing in real time how that’s going. So the evolution of the iPad to consolidate all these artistic forms into one tablet doesn’t surprise me. But I also know it will never take the place of a beautiful sounding trumpet, playing games on a real arcade, or an amazing photo taken with a professional camera. Oh, speaking of which, here are a few of favorite photos from a recent camping trip to the panhandle of Florida. None were taken with an iPad, in case you were wondering. 😉
