The title automatically makes you think this will be a story about a hip, woke, person who cares way too much about which pronouns people use but I will give you some immediate relief…it’s not! It’s actually about 3 people- 2 she’s and a he– who tested positive for Covid in a matter of a week or so.
Covid has been the story of this Christmas for my immediate family. Among the 10 of us who were able to gather for the holiday, one of my nieces tested positive, then me, then my sister.
My symptoms were unlike any sickness I had before so even before testing, I was 99% sure it was Covid. When I get a cold, for instance, it’s very predictable. Starts with a scratchy throat. Progresses to a runny nose and sneezing. Then it’s over.
This one, though, was nothing like that. The first night of symptoms included cold sweats, a headache, and an achy body. Cold sweats made me think I had a fever….but my temperature has been 97/98 the entire time.
Then on day 2 my throat started to hurt and it got really bad by day 4. It felt like swallowing glass for a couple of days, actually.
I’m on day 8 now and thankfully my throat is back to normal but I’m still feeling a lingering achiness and lethargy.
My sister is on all the meds and vitamins I had been taking so hopefully her worst days are in the past also. The peculiar thing about her catching it is that she’s been vaccinated! So much for that, I guess.
For Christmas gift exchanging, we all sat outside, spread out, and opened presents. One of the benefits of December in Florida, I guess.
2021 isn’t wrapping up the way I would’ve planned it for me or for the time spent with my family, some of whom I didn’t get to see because of getting Covid. But we are rolling with the changes (as the REO Speedwagon song goes) and hopefully with this story not going how we would’ve liked, were about to turn some pages.
