The Amazon Chest Hair Polar Plunge Commercial – The Music and More

Once again, Amazon is utilizing the skills of this British voiceover actress in their new commercial about a guy who bares his chest for a polar plunge. I’ve paddled around in Florida springs… which is as cold as I ever want to be when it comes to swimming, thankyouhairymuch. But this guy goes all-in for his chilly dip in the water, even getting rid of his chest hair by way of this Braun laser hair removal kit. I’ve never heard the phrase used in the early release of the commercial, “less hair, more air,” but maybe they guy’s on to something. Calling this a holiday ad is a stretch Amazon, although this Gap commercial might be a bigger stretch. Bah humbug, here’s the revised commercial (they changed the voiceover from “less hair, more air” to “…the Flying Dutchman”), then scroll down for more info.

The Music. The song in the commercial is called “ooh LA LA” by Run The Jewels. Here’s the full track, as released in 2020.

It’s Worth Pointing Out. Earlier this year Amazon aired a commercial that was met with some pushback. The ad, check it out here, shows a woman deciding to rock a mustache in school. Amazon must love the progressive side of American culture because just this year they show a woman embracing her body hair and a man removing his. Consequently, this Amazon ad is on the list of commercials I don’t like along with these other ads, one even features an elite NFL running back.

  1. Wow. It’s always seems very ironic and telling to me that members of conservative culture, especially so-called “alpha” male members, love to adopt “tough guy” personas, psuedo-rebel attitudes, and absolutist opinions of about, well, everything, all delivered with what they think of as confidence. Yet they ultimately seem to be little snowflakes that are disturbed by, or afraid of, everything, and they run around insisting that everyone in the world around them agree with their (often ignorant) opinions. Add to that their continual habit of projecting onto others what they, themselves, are doing. If they were actually tough, self confident, and edgy rebels, they probably wouldn’t prattle on about everything they percieved as some deadly cultural threat, and how people just aren’t paying anough attention to their tantrums. People choose to get tattoos or piercings, become body builders, grow beards, buy stupidly huge trucks and SUVS, go ice fishing, whatever. These are personal choices. I may or may not like them, but I don’t throw a hissy fit about every video clip I don’t agree with. Grow some balls and cool out. Geez.

  2. Ok, so, I was just as perplexed as all of you while watching this ridiculous Amazon commercial! But then, a lightbulb went off. All of you are missing the point! Amazon WANTS all of the viewers to wonder why would a man shave his chest before jumping into the freezing cold water. IT’S NOT ABOUT THAT! Amazon has succeeded in getting its audience to “Google” and to go on Social Media to talk about this controversial commercial. They want the BUZZ and we gave it freely to them. This is my opinion, of course I could be way out in left field, but this is the only thing that DOES make sense, regarding this commercial…hence, they will sell plenary of those manscaping shavers!

  3. Had to Google what this ad was trying to convey. If you were able to identify the item removed from the box, you must already own one. What purpose do the girls serve? Then, the next question is what was the point? What a waste of commercial time and money!

  4. I had to google what this commercial meant- and after I realized the meaning-I was even more annoyed that it was so vague. How about a heated blanket?

  5. I had to look up the meaning also. I honestly thought he had ordered a long, hard fake phallus to put in his Speedo to impress everyone when he jumped in the freezing lake . . . .

  6. I had no idea what this commercial was about. I finally looked it up online, and frankly, it still made no sense who the heck cares if he shaved his body to jump in the cold water. And after all this, I am wondering what the heck Amazon has to do with it? I ordered the shaver from Amazon? Why? This is the dumbest commercial I’ve seen in a long time.

      1. Actually it was a laser hair remover meaning the hair is gone for good. Who would do that to jump in cold water. Stupid concept.

  7. This makes no sense what so ever why you need to shave your chest to jump into a ice filled lake. Why not also shave his head and arm pits, nose hair eye brows ? I think I have made my point.

  8. I hate this ad. First, I resent the idea that men should have to shave their chest hair. Second, I hate cold water, or cold anything. I am the kind of person who will take short walks outside when it’s 110 F, and people call me nuts for this. Ok, fine, but I love the feeling of extreme heat (in small doses). So why are we supposed to find it charming and empowering when this dude jumps in an arctic lake? That’s as dangerous and stupid as anything I’ve done.
