How many times have you been part of a breakup that’s dragged on and on and on? I’ve experienced this in my adult dating life. Looking back now, I can confirm there’s nothing fun about these kinds of endings. And yes, even the multiple reunifications that happen between breakups aren’t worth it…
It’s better to pull the band-aid. Go cold turkey. Dry your eyes, just kiss and say goodbye. This is one of the songs I’ve been listening to on repeat since I rediscovered UB40 (and binge-listening like a crazy man). Their cover version was released in 2005 but the original goes way back to the 1970s. Here’s UB40’s great version followed by The Manhattans, who deliver an amazing performance of the song.
This *might* be a case where I actually like the original more than the version I heard first (UB40). Check out the soulful, heartfelt original by The Manhattans…
This song is a good reminder that usually it’s better to break up once. Kiss. Say goodbye. Move on. Or, as in my case with 6 consecutive rejections since Christmas, just start with the goodbye. 🥴

Isn’t the ultimate purpose of dating to see if the other person’s lifestyle, goals, religious beliefs, values, and interests are in sync with yours? It’s not to change the other person to make him/her compatible, and it’s not to accept the person as is as a life partner and hope he/she eventually changes to your way of thinking/living. So, IMO, a “breakup” should be amicable and simply a kind send off with blessings and well wishes and screen doors that don’t hit.
