Florida State is as bad as I wanted Alabama to be

I graduated from Florida State many moons ago and I’ve loved the Noles for practically my whole life. I won’t get into why I no longer cheer for them (and alumni donation callers, you can stop calling me now 😉 ) but my siblings and other family are still all-in with the Noles. Fine by me! I’ve gotten through the proper stages of grief and now I’m pretty much indifferent to anything that goes on with FSU whether it’s sports or anything academic related.

But I’ll admit that when it comes to football, there’s still a part of me that is a little giddy when the team loses. And lately, they’re losing a lot. But no longer do I cheer for the “other team” every time FSU plays. If they’re the underdog, I might root for FSU. This weekend they played NC State, a team with a similar record. NC State came out on top. FSU is having a better season than last year, which was one every single fan will purposely forget and aggressively deny ever happened.

Which is funny because this season started out so well. FSU defeated Alabama. Yes, that Alabama. The stars were aligning until reality came crashing down at Doak Campbell Stadium. Now the team is 5-6 and just hoping to go to any bowl game. An improvement from last year (you know, the season that doesn’t exist).

I’ve been enjoying college football so much because of the upsets, because of the potential lineup of the upcoming playoffs. So many schools are good enough to be mentioned as the National Champion but let’s face it, it’s going to be Ohio State. Unless someone can beat them at just the right time. Can we all agree we’re fine with any team becoming the champions, except Alabama?
