The NBA is already into the playoffs? I had no idea. In fact, I had to check my phone to confirm it. I can’t put a finger on the reason I stopped watching but I should also say I’m a sporty guy. I watch football, I play sports when I have the chance, and I’m generally very competitive. So it was a little surprising that I hadn’t really even heard that the playoffs started. I don’t really care, though. The NBA lost me along the way somewhere. I remember watching the Sacramento Kings back in the Chris Webber era. What a fun team that was, with Jason Williams, Peja Stojakovic, Vlade Divac, and others. Good times.
Since then, and it’s been about 20 years I guess, teams consistently score well into the 100s and I have no interest in that. I guess I like defense… even if it’s just a tiny bit of effort to keep teams from scoring every time they have the ball. It’s also gotten political, which I have no interest in. On top of that, there are a lot of fights and you might say, “But Ben, hockey has fights and it doesn’t bother you.” You’re right. It doesn’t. But in my defense, I barely watch hockey except for the playoffs and that’s only when the Nashville Predators make it to the playoffs. In other words, I barely watch hockey even in the playoffs.
It might just be my personality. I’ll admit I didn’t even like watching Michael Jordan play in the 90s. It wasn’t till he retired that I came around to admitting he’s the best basketball player of all time (all along I knew he was, I guess it just bothered me that he was SO good). It also bothered me that the Kings could never beat the Lakers. Ugh, they had such talent, too!
I’m a little surprised that I had no idea playoffs had started in the NBA. Even though I don’t watch, I usually find out about sports stuff just from an enjoyment of sports in general. But I’m also not upset about not knowing. Kind of like baseball. Both those sports (on the professional level) can just go away. Then we can all just enjoy football as America’s true pastime! 🙂
