Freddie Freeman Walk Off Home Run

Is this real life? I had just arrived at home after participating in contra dancing and pretty much forgot all about game 1 of the World Series. When I remembered, I flipped to Fox and caught the 8th and 9th innings. But fate had something else in mind… an extra inning as the teams were tied at 2. By now you know that in the bottom of 10, the Yankees were up 3-2 and with bases loaded and 2 outs, Freddie Freeman hit a game-winning grand slam. A FREAKING GRAND SLAM TO WIN A WORLD SERIES GAME. I couldn’t believe I watched it live, what a privilege! The obvious comparison is the home run by Kirk Gibson in 1988 that still gives me chills.

The Yankees strategy backfired (walking the batter before Freeman) and I couldn’t help but think of the Alabama vs. Auburn football game when one second was put back on the clock, giving Alabama the chance to win with a field goal. It came up short and Auburn returned it for a touchdown, winning the game. Epic.

Game 1 of the Yankees vs. Dodgers this year will probably be remembered as long as sports stories are told, and I’m so glad I got to see it happen live. I love sports!
