Nike “Play New” Commercial – The music, the voice, and more!

Nike’s “Play New” ad is one I’d categorize as being for the rest of us. The non-professional athletes. The non-good athletes. The ones that, like the commercial says, try something new and find out we kind of stink at it. Here’s the ad…

Getting personal. For me it’s golf. Well, golf and skateboarding. Oh, and disc golf. Also gotta add snow skiing. And I can’t forget to include soccer. I enjoy some of these, though, even though I’m not very good and that’s the point of the ad. Get out there and try everything!

The Music. The soundtrack of this ad is a song called “Sports” by Viagra Boys.

The Stars. On Nike’s news page, they explain that the ad “features elite athletes like Sabrina Ionescu, Dina Asher-Smith and Blake Leeper, as well as award-winning artist Rosalía. Their commonality is finding joy in movement, play and competition — and using their participation as fuel for confidently pursuing their respective goals.”

The Voiceover. My best guess is that this ad is narrated by actress/YouTuber/comedian Liza Koshy. Although unconfirmed, it sounds a lot like her and she’s worked with Nike in the past, for example this vlog of hers which is quite hilarious and well-edited.

Walmart’s New Summer TV Ad – The Music, and more!

Whatever you’re doing in your house, the music in this ad might just make you drop it and come listen!

That’s what happened to me when I heard Little Richard “Get Down With It” playing as the soundtrack to this fun summer commercial. What a great song! Hearing it reminded me that I saw Little Richard once in the Nashville airport. He was shorter than I imagined. But it was cool to see him and an entourage.

Robin Chicks… update #4

These chicks seem to be growing into full-size birds so fast. I had no idea they go from eggs to flying within weeks. Well, I’m jumping ahead of things a bit, they haven’t learned to fly yet BUT!! they are big now. Here are a few pics of the birds. This first pic was a few days ago. Second pic is one of the parents waiting to attack me. Last two are pics from this morning, see the difference in the last two from the first one? Lots of growing!

Baby geese struggle to follow parents out of pond

The highlight of my day yesterday was these newborn geese trying their hardest to climb up the steep bank of a pond. Their parents, blessed with fully functional wings, made it up but the six goslings had major issues.

I could try to explain it more but nothing would quite do the justice of what I witnessed. Thankfully, I hit record on my camera and captured it all on video. Check it out and I hope this helps make your day a bit more cheery, you silly goose.

The Music from Big Sky’s Season 1 Finale (air date 5/18/2021)

Big Sky is one of the best, if not THE best show on TV right now. This is thanks in part to the acting, of course, but how about the music? Songs always seem to be perfectly placed in the scenes. I’ve written about past episodes which you can check at the bottom of this post, but for now, let’s get to the music playing as the soundtrack of episode 16, the season 1 finale.

Kings of Leon “100,000 People” – This song plays very briefly underneath a conversation between Arthur/Ronald and his girlfriend Scarlet. My only complaint is that it was not enough of a great band. Check out the full track below.

Johnny Mathis “Chances Are” – This song plays while Ronald and agent Mark are talking in a jail/holding facility. Ronald is creepy, and I’ll leave it at that. Meanwhile, with the song still playing, Scarlet makes a mysterious phone call.

Heart “Crazy On You” – The final montage includes this song playing as the action and basically the tease for next season unfolds. No spoilers but part of the scene is Cassie walking with a high-powered rifle and I gotta say, yes, yes, and yes! In the words of another Heart song, Cassie is a “barracuda” you do NOT want to mess with.
