No Escape movie review, no spoilers
I’ll start by saying this post has absolutely no spoilers about the movie. With that said, the movie was so good that I want to tell you all about it! But I’ll refrain. Now, you may be doubting Owen Wilson‘s ability to act in an action/thriller, I may not be able to change your mind using words alone.

So what I recommend is to first find Behind Enemy Lines and watch it. Owen Wilson does a fantastic job in the military action movie. If you do some research on his portfolio, you’ll discover he’s played a few dramatic roles, so if military movies aren’t your thing, you have a few choices like Bottle Rocket or Marley & Me. There are more, I just didn’t feel like looking them up. 🙂
(scroll down for more after the No Escape trailer) So now that that’s settled we’ll move on to the other main characters. There’s a wife. There are children. There’s Pierce Brosnan. The parts they play are all quite realistic and believable, save for a few lines from the daughters that, having 7 young nieces, I know they wouldn’t have said in the particular circumstances they were in when they said what they said.

It came across as if the director made sure to have lines that children in real life would say, and he wasn’t wrong. It was just the complete wrong timing. Think: Mommy, I have to go potty. Daddy, I’m hungry. Sure, kids say that all the time. But not when people are shooting guns all around them. No kid would say that, sorry. It felt like overcompensating for all the other movies where kids don’t say things kids would say, or say things only adults would say, if that makes sense. So last night in the theater full of lucky people who got to see an advance screening, there was a sense of cheesiness when these lines happened.
Overall, though, great movie! So many tense scenes and you’ll be engaged within the first 10 minutes. It was very easy to put myself in the situation and feel the range of emotions Owen Wilson’s character feels. The mother, too.

As a wife and a mom, Lake Bell is so believable in her mannerisms, her conversations, her facial expressions, you will want to jump up and punch a bad guy just to keep her and her kids safe. Pierce Brosnan brings an adventurous character to life, and quite frankly, he might have been my favorite character in the movie. A bit of comedy relief when you need it, possibly a hero when you need it, and a kind of trusting older brother in an unfamiliar place when you need it. Not to say he does or doesn’t fulfill those roles, remember: no spoilers!
So when you have a chance, definitely go see this movie, you won’t be disappointed. There are curse words, and pretty gritty violence so it’s not a movie for kids, or the faint of heart.

The Reawakening: Part 11
It’s not see you later, it’s goodbye.
You know how when you are leaving your friends from high school, or college, or moving to a new town, some friends say, “It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later”? I don’t feel that way at all about the job I was laid off of just a few months ago. The friends I made there? Yes, I will miss them and I know I’ll see some of them around town or in future work.
But I’ve got this comfortable feeling of rest and relief, maybe it’s called peace, about leaving that particular job in the past. It’s a part of my history that I’ll remember with a smile. Lots of good things can be directly related to it:
the first girl I ever loved
great downtown parking
amazing live music performances
an introduction to Roy D. Mercer
helping to produce nationally televised shows
great friendships
trips to places like Las Vegas, the gulf coast, Miami, Los Angeles, Phoenix, New York, and many more
The people that told me how fast time goes after you get laid off were not wrong. Hard to believe it’s already been over 5 months. But I haven’t missed the job for a second! I’ve had a great summer that I will look back on and thank CMT for making it happen. Soon I will have another job or two, I’ll be back in the “real world” of making paychecks and scraping by, but for a few months, I lived how I imagine my dogs feel every day. Wake up, have some fun, bark at things, eat, sleep.

I made this delicious smoothie the other night for a simple and quick dinner. Ingredients listed below the pic. I blended them together, put the blender in the refrigerator for a few minutes, then blended them again and the flavor of each ingredient really came out.
Ingredients:
1 banana
Handful of frozen blueberries
Handful of fresh baby spinach leaves
5 or 6 strawberries
A few spoonfuls of powdered peanut butter (brand: PB2)
Vanilla almond milk (brand: Silk)
