Grey Goose Vodka – Le Music, Le Dance, and More!

Do the ‘Tini! Grey Goose Vodka has an ad out with a few French(ish) phrases- Le Chill, La Goose, Le Stir, Le Twist. Take a look at the ad then scroll down for all the trivia you can “le stand.”

Le Music. The song setting the festive mood for this ad is Wilson Pickett “Barefootin’.” The song is 55 years old, as it was released in 1966.

Le Dance. According to this article, the choreographer for Sia’s “Chandelier” directed this Grey Goose spot. Check out Ryan Heffington’s work in the Sia music video.

Behind le ad. The commercial was created by ad agency MullenLowe LA. Evidently the martini is making a resurgence in popularity so whether you like it shaken or stirred, you can be cool like James Bond with this cocktail.

Tesco Christmas Commercial – Music, Vaccine Passports, and More!

UK grocery chain Tesco put together quite an elaborate TV commercial for the Christmas season. It’s called “Nothing’s Stopping Us.” Take a look at the 90-second ad below, then scroll down for more info…

The Music. A perfect fit for this ad, they chose Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now.” Listen to the full track here.

The Creators. The ad was created by Bartle Bogle Hegarty Ad Agency. They’re based in London, England. Check out their website here.

The drama. According to this article, folks in the UK took issue with Santa showing his medical status in order to board a flight. Why he would need to this when he has a sleigh is not really addressed but I guess a few kudos can be given for slipping in a timely message about coronavirus in an ad about grocery stores.

Mixed Messages. I might be riffing now but… is it contradictory to title your ad “Nothing’s Stopping Us” (meaning that nothing will get in the way of celebrating Christmas this year) whilst implying Santa (and everyone else) can’t fly unless they have a vaccine passport? Because that definitely implies that without the vaccine, your plans will definitely be stopped. Hmm.

Alternates. There are a few other uploads of the commercial. On YouTube you can see their ad with British Sign Language, or with an audio description of the scenes.

Final thoughts. Conundrums aside, I love the effort put into this ad. For one that only airs around Christmas time, they certainly didn’t hold anything back and the quality shows. Lots of great production value and nice editing, too. Plus, using Queen is almost always a win.

Apple and Bruno Mars with New AirPods Commercial

Apple is promoting the new AirPods 3 in their latest ad. They’ve included some big names to perform the soundtrack for the ad… check it out then scroll down for more

The song is “777” by Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, and Silk Sonic. Here’s the full track…

Officially this track is credited to Silk Sonic, as it’s one that appears on their album “An Evening With Silk Sonic.”

This 3rd generation of the AirPods boasts a lot of fancy features, click here for all of that. You can find them on Amazon (may arrive after Christmas) by clicking here.

Or if you’re like me, just buy a great pair of bluetooth earbuds for less than half the price.

But back to the ad, does it fit with the image Apple likes to project of their brand? And more importantly, does the commercial make you want to go buy AirPods?

Chime in below and, as always, thanks for stopping by!

Big Sky has turned into a big disappointment

I was one of those people fully onboard for ABC’s Big Sky. Season one was really good with a mix of drama, humor, and mystery. They had a villain we loved to hate (actually, two villains with Ronald and Rick Legarski). The chase for Ronald had me tuning in every episode, even when season one was split in half with quite a bit of time between the two halves. On top of that, I enjoyed finding out what music was used in each episode.

Then season two came along and I was mostly giddy with expectation. Where’s Ronald? Will they finally track him down and be able to keep him custody? Was the second half of season one just a fluke? You might be wondering what I’m talking about with that comment. Well, when they came back to finish season one, there was another storyline introduced, taking us away from the undivided attention on Ronald. It was weird. It was weird and rather uninteresting. This new storyline was about a random family with major issues, and no one who was likable. It was not a good part of season one.

So back to season two… Ronald is still out there, now kept captive by Rick Legarski’s odd brother Wolfgang. This is where I’ve almost lost all interest in the show. The storyline going in this direction, with Ronald in some home tucked away in a forest is just weird. And they introduced another storyline that has some interesting things going on, I guess, but it’s just not enough to keep my attention much longer.

Along with the weird direction they took Ronald’s story, the series is doing what it did in season one for season two – taking a few weeks (or a month? I never know when it’s back on TV) off for a reason I haven’t figured out. Plus it used to be on Tuesdays, then it switched to Thursdays, and just last week there was something tied into the live shows of Different Strokes and Facts of Life. I didn’t care to figure it out because like I said before, I’m just not interested enough anymore to keep following along with the constantly changing calendar and the random storylines.

From what I can see, ratings are on the decline and in last night’s episode (which I didn’t watch because I had no idea it was on!), it was at the bottom of the list, only having a higher rating than a couple of shows on the CW. Not something to brag about.

So my guess is the show will be going away sometime in 2022… as in, cancelled. Unless they get things going with Ronald again, and with that some drama and action, it might be best for us to disconnect ourselves from the show and any characters we’ve grown to like, then find something more interesting to watch.

Why do we have a Christmas “Eve”?

I was wondering the other day why we have a “Christmas Eve”? Then, only a few days later, it’s another “eve” to celebrate a new year. There are 11 federal holidays, so why do only 2 get eves?

If I had to guess, I’d say Christmas gets an “eve” because there’s just too much excitement for one day. Because, generally speaking, Christmas Day is such a happy and celebrated occasion, all that joy just had to spill over to the day before. New Year’s Day might have a similar reason, except that the excitement isn’t about the day particularly. It’s more about the ending of a year and a fresh beginning. A brand new day, a brand new year. Anything is possible.

Both Christmas and January 1st have a lot of anticipation building up to them. No other holidays have nearly as much excitement for their coming. I mean, when’s the last time Walmart started selling stuff months ahead of time for Labor Day?

I also learned that Christmas Eve, throughout history, was the beginning of the celebration of Jesus’s birth. This goes way back to early Jewish faith and the Bible talking about a day being evening, then morning. It is also believed that Jesus was born at night, so there could be a tie-in with that, as well.

No matter the history of these two “eve” days, at least they are both positive experiences for the majority of humanity. It’s not like there’s a gigantic-future-of-mankind-and-everything-changed kind of mistake associated with them. Thanks a lot Eve and Adam!

But seriously, if there is any deeper meaning, it would be that there’s the exact opposite of a mistake on Christmas Eve. More accurately, it’s a gigantic-future-of-mankind-and-everything-changed kind of hero born for us.

Merry Christmas!
