Justin Bieber’s video “Intentions” will melt your heart

I sorta wish “Yummy” never happened (for my blog about that video, click here), but this song/video from Justin Bieber makes up for it big time! The lyrics of “Intentions” are sweet, smooth, and it’s got a nice melody. Nothing over the top. The theme reminds me a little of Omi’s “Cheerleader,” which was a gigantic hit a few years ago. This video is touching… and, well, he gave one woman studio time and another a car! I guess Oprah’s not the only one giving out cars. OK, OK, that reference is as old as the hills, just like saying ” as old as the hills,” but he DID give a deserving person a hand to help her get ahead. And it’s a nice looking Fiat 500!

Just when I think Justin hasn’t grown up (did I mention “Yummy” yet?) he goes and does a video like this. Kudos, Mr. Bieber!

Here are a few stats and pieces of info I found out about the video…

Justin’s red sweater is Flaneur brand, retailing under $75. Justin seems to gravitate towards a wardrobe that us regular folks can afford.

A couple of locations for this shoot were libraries. One was the West Los Angeles College Library. The other was the Delmar T. Oviatt Library on the campus of California State University, Northridge. Delmar Oviatt was a native of Canada, as is Justin.

Who is Quavo? His full name is Quavious Marshall and he’s from just outside Atlanta, GA. Need more info? Check Wikipedia!!

A clever ad appears about a minute and a half in on the back of a bus stop bench. “Get over your SELFie / Send it later”… which I’m guessing is a plea to stop texting and driving. Amen!

#BachelorBoycott is a real thing

I haven’t watched the Bachelor since the producers were so sinister towards Bachelor Peter. What they did on his date with Victoria F. was so uncool. Actually, uncool isn’t even a strong enough word. It was just dirty. Here’s a recap if you missed it.

For a show that claims they want folks to find love, they have a funny way of helping. Now, I’ll admit this isn’t the first time they’ve orchestrated events just for the sake of causing drama. I mean, in the reality TV world drama often equals ratings and at the end of the day ratings are all that matter. I was in television for over 10 years and as exciting as it can be, the most important numbers were ratings. Nothing else mattered.

This show is no different, no matter how they promote it. I think it became more obvious when Chris Harrison started using his all-too-familiar phrase, “The most dramatic season ever.” Drama equals ratings. Love does not. No one really wants to watch a real relationship form. Why? Because unless you’re in that relationship, it can be boring to watch. But fights, lying, throwing people under the bus, champagne exploding in someone’s face… that’s what keeps viewers coming back.

I guess if the producers would simply stop pretending they care about an actual, real relationship developing and call it was it is… maybe people would be less upset when they script drama on a show that’s supposed to be unscripted.

For now, let’s join the #BachelorBoycott …who’s with me??

J-Hope “Ego” music video: the clothes, the car, and the clock!

Boasting 24 million views in only a few days on YouTube, this video is a gigantic hit from an extremely popular group… BTS. I don’t understand most of what J-Hope sings in this song, or the text in the video, but I’ll do my best to bring you some interesting bits and pieces from this video! Thanks for stopping by!

The “RS” sweater J-Hope is wearing at the beginning of the video (0:37) is made by Raf Simons. This type of outwear from RS will set you back hundreds of US dollars, and can be found online here.

His next shirt (below) is Human Made brand. These types of shirts retail around $100.

The red car he’s driving is a 1973 Mercedes 450SL. These can sell around $6,000 or up to $20,000.

Screen Shot 2020-02-06 at 11.27.19 AM

The license plate on the car says, “BTS 13613” which represents their debut… in the US we’d write it like this: 61313… June 13, 2013.

Screen Shot 2020-02-06 at 11.42.03 AM

The clock he walks by is a Skilcraft, which most likely retains around $20.

All the brands in the store window (pictured below) were “established in 1994” …this is purposefully done, as J-Hope was born in 1994. His Korean name is Jung, so J’s Tailor is most likely a nod to that.

Lastly, here’s a behind the scenes video from the video shoot.

Biden out, Bloomberg in? New TV ad from Bloomberg after Iowa fiasco

This week something really interesting happened. I was jogging on the treadmill at Planet Fitness (because who wants to run outdoors when it’s 40 degrees and rainy??) and looked up to the row of TVs to see, surprising no one, an ad for Michael Bloomberg. But it wasn’t the familiar ads we’ve seen recently.

This campaign ad featured Bloomberg’s relationship with former President Barack Obama. Take a look.

The timing is what’s very interesting about this ad. A few days ago the Iowa caucuses took place started and, while final votes are still being counted days later, Biden looks to be well behind the leader of the Democrat nomination process. If Biden was banking on support from the Obama camp, and clearly he was, that will all but disappear after his dreadful numbers in Iowa. So the day after the Iowa caucus, Bloomberg airs an advertisement touting his relationship with Obama. It’s very clever and strategic to do this as support for Biden is most likely going to disintegrate and those folks will need another nominee on whom to cling.

In the commercial, Obama spoke praises of Bloomberg, so Bloomberg is clearly trying to rally everyone who loves Obama onto the Bloomberg bandwagon.

What do you think about the timing of this ad? Will it help Bloomberg? It’ll be interesting to see if Obama officially vocalizes support for any of the nominees, as he hasn’t so far.

Troop Zero (Amazon Prime)… a review WITHOUT spoilers

This Amazon Prime movie very well might be the cutest film I’ll see all year. The young actress, Mckenna Grace, is simply adorable and the entire cast did an amazing job. There were times I laughed, cried, cringed, and cheered. Be warned, although I’d consider the movie family friendly, there are a few moments of adult language (the ‘a’ word), which is mostly why it gets a PG rating. There is some smoking of the cigarettes and drinking of the beers, but overall it’s tame and if you’re OK with the ‘a’ word being used a few times by the adult characters, you’ll be fine with this movie.

One part I loved was watching two characters start off as mortal enemies but by the end, they’ve put differences aside to connect as friends. I won’t give away anything, but this relationship transformation doesn’t just happen with the kiddos in the movie. I also thought Jim Gaffigan was a perfect choice for Christmas’s dad, Ramsey Flint. Plus, any movie with Mike Epps in it automatically gets my attention.

This movie is a story about the strength of perseverance, believing in yourself, not giving up, and celebrating your uniqueness. Check it out and let me know what you think about it in the comments below!
