Sticking my foot in my mouth… again

Nepal. That’s where he was from. Awesome. Cool. That’s great. “I’m so globally aware. I’ll talk to him about Nepal,” is what I thought as my Lyft driver brought me home a few days ago. “Oh nice. I have some friends who live over there in India but I’m not exactly sure where,” is what I said. He responds.

I go further explaining it might be in Nepal, but I know for sure it’s somewhere in India.

I’m thinking to myself, “Nepal is the capital city of India, right? RIGHT???” Why am I getting the vibe that I’m a total idiot? Oh man, what am I doing? He kindly mentions that Nepal is close to India, he must’ve realized I was thinking Nepal was in India.

I try to play it off but I’m sure he was thinking, “This crazy white guy is clueless.”

But I’ll say this, I’ve watched Hotel Mumbai. Great movie. I know Mumbai is in India. When Nepal comes out with Hotel Kathmandu I’ll be a lot more geographically sound! Until then I’ll just try to keep my mouth shut!

French Montana “Writing On the Wall”: what you might have missed in the video

A collaboration between R&B powerhouses here, and a new video to go along with the song, “Writing On the Wall,” has fans super pumped. Check out French Montana with Cardi B, Post Malone, and producer Rvssian, then scroll down for what you missed in the video!

After watching it once or a handful of times, did you notice any of these things?

  • The bicycle rider on the left in the first shot of the music video is wearing a Givenchy brand long-sleeve shirt. Guess how much a shirt like this costs? A similar shirt on the Givenchy website is listed at $695.00. The bike he’s riding probably retails around the same.

  • Next up… 10 seconds in, the guy standing with French Montana looks up before French takes off. Is this an edit gaff or can the guy see into the future?

Screen Shot 2019-09-27 at 3.19.57 PM

  • French Montana is watching a TikTok video of “Writing On the Wall” and clicks the heart. He’s also doing this in another of his music videos, called “Slide”…

  • Immediately after this, he rockets up to the sky but notice in the background the same cat goes by twice. Or perhaps it’s another cat. Cats are always everywhere!

Screen Shot 2019-09-27 at 3.33.58 PM

  • When he lands in the city as a giant human, there’s a taxi with a TikTok ad on the roof.

  • He’s sitting near an intersection of Hectic Boulevard. Maybe that intersects the “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” a la Green Day?

Screen Shot 2019-09-27 at 3.36.11 PM

  • Another TikTok ad… as crowds gather around.

Screen Shot 2019-09-27 at 3.37.07 PM

  • They may have shot this video around the time New York City has an annual “5 Boro Bike Tour” as seen in these street sign by behind Post Malone. That would be a good time to shoot the video since a lot of streets are blocked off for the annual bike event in May, although most of the video is green screen, so who knows.

Screen Shot 2019-09-27 at 3.42.23 PM

  • French and Post Malone are riding motorcycles without helmets, but you can see they’re clearly not in New York City. Good thing, because wearing helmets is required by law in the entire state of New York. Maybe this part was shot in Jersey. I’d say, however, using at least one hand is recommended, Mr. Malone!

Screen Shot 2019-09-27 at 3.47.25 PM

  • Another TikTok billboard at 2 minutes into the video.

Screen Shot 2019-09-27 at 3.49.36 PM

  • A few seconds later in the video a meteor blasts through the atmosphere. Never saw that the first time I watched the video!

Screen Shot 2019-09-27 at 3.50.55 PM

  • Yankee Stadium has solar panels, but no “Yankee Stadium” sign.

Screen Shot 2019-09-27 at 3.53.17 PM

  • I’m guessing this is the front grill of a Bentley.

Screen Shot 2019-09-27 at 3.55.24 PM

  • Glowing glittery lights form the skyline of a city, New York perhaps?

Screen Shot 2019-09-27 at 3.57.19 PM

A few other fun facts…

  • The phrase “writing on the wall” comes from the book of Daniel in the Holy Bible. Chapter 5 verse 5, King Belshazzar is having a party and sees fingers of a man’s hand appear and begin writing on the wall in his palace.
  • TikTok is advertised throughout this video, and French Montana actually has a song called “Tic Toc” (But spelled differently than the phone app)
  • At the time of this post, French Montana has 75,900 followers on TikTok.

My new lady friend!

What started out as a work trip to Memphis turned into the beginning of a beautiful relationship. I never expected that in all my years! In fact, it almost didn’t happen. As I closed the car door to begin my trip from Memphis back to Nashville, there she was. This perfect little lady…. bug.

img_20190924_1453433078513511889328666.jpg

Yes, that’s right, a lady bug. She (or he?) landed on the window’s edge outside the driver’s side door and there she stood. Taking on all the adversity that comes with hanging on for dear life to a car going 70+ mph!

Take a look at this beauty…

But a love like this was bound to fail. Neither of us were strong enough. And alas, when I got home… over 200 miles from when we first met… reality hit me like a freight train. This little lady bug was no longer alive. Still attached to the car door? Yes. But I guess the 3 hours of wind dried her out.

I peeled her from the door siding and she floated to the ground surrounded by my tears.

OK not really. I didn’t cry. I DIDN’T!!! May she rest in peace, this warrior willing to hold on to the something for so long it killed her.

2019 Ford Fusion – oh my!

I had a 2019 Ford Fusion for a rental car the other day and wow, was I impressed! I’m not a car guy, so I can’t really tell you about the technical aspects of the car, or what the longevity of this car is… like if it’ll break down after 50k miles, or if all the amazing technology will fail at some point.

But besides that, this car was amazing. The gear shift was a little nob built in as part of the center console. That was different, and I grew to really like it. It had 2 USB ports also as part of the console/entertainment area, and as an added bonus, the ports were lighted which is obviously very convenient at night. Comfortable controls in the steering wheel for cruise control, stereo controls, lane drifting protection, and a lot more.

Like I said, I can’t say if this car will have problems in the future, but as a brand new car and for a short rental… it was amazing!

Old MacDonald had a solar farm

One of the most random interstate rest stops I’ve ever been to is in the middle of a solar farm! To get to the building where the bathrooms are, you literally have to drive right next to rows and rows of solar panels. It’s quite fascinating. They’re all pointed towards the sun (surprise, surprise) and even from the interstate it’s a sight to see. Inside the building there’s a thorough exhibit on all the things going on with solar power, solar energy. I didn’t have time to read up on it all, but I’m sure it’s interesting. Take a look at a few photos I took while I stopped off at rest stop #44, interstate 40 in west Tennessee.
