NFL football drama in week 1

I watched the Jets/ Bills game Monday night because I wanted to see Aaron Rodgers have a good start to the season. Plus, that game affected my fantasy football status and while fantasy football went well for me this week, I can’t say the same for Rodgers. I can’t believe he tore his achilles on the opening Jets drive. Crazy how that changes a lot for the Jets. I also saw a screen grab of a fantasy team that lost by less than a point because Rodgers got 0 fantasy points. Ouch.

NFL football in week 1 was mostly unremarkable. Most teams that lost, lost by a lot. The most nail-biter of a game had to be the Jets/ Bills game because even after Rodgers left with the injury, the Jets managed to secure a win! It’s not like they were playing the Titans either. This was the Buffalo freakin’ Bills.

So while J-E-T-S fans are not super pumped about Rodgers being gone for the season, at least they got a win and, for now, they’re undefeated.

College football week 2 was kind of forgettable, too. I still wonder if week 1 is going to be the best week of college football because of Coach Prime’s first win, and a few big upsets in the top 25. But, of course, when Alabama loses again will be another great college football weekend.

Who’s the woman in The Rolling Stones “Angry” video? Answers here!

Legendary rock band The Rolling Stones have a video to go along with a new song called “Angry.” Who am I kidding, you already knew that, that’s why you’re reading this today! But as a refresher, here’s the video starring an actress you might recognize from HBO.

The Actress. The video definitely focuses on her more physical assets, to put it mildly, but up for the Mercedes-Benz ride-along is actress Sydney Sweeney. She’s most well-known for her role in HBO’s “Euphoria.” Here are few clips in a sizzle reel put together for her role…

Are you happy The Rolling Stones have new music? How do you feel about the music video?

Kandahar the Movie – What to Watch Instead

I really like Gerard Butler and whenever he’s in a movie, I’m going to watch at least once. My favorite of his is Hunter Killer, an intense action movie that had me on the edge of my seat. The most recent movie I’ve seen starring Butler is Kandahar. I wanted to love it but just never quite got there. Here’s the trailer if you haven’t seen it yet…

You know when you watch a movie and pretty early on you are rooting for the protagonist? Maybe you can picture yourself in their situation, or it’s a classic tale of good vs. evil, or an underdog story. This movie wasn’t a classic tale as much as it was an overused theme in the past few years or decade. All the same elements of an “us vs. them” military movie but very few surprises. I’d even venture to say that Butler’s character isn’t even very likable. But one scene I liked a lot was all at night, with Gerard using night vision to outwit the enemy. Besides that, it was a predictable military guy who’s gone from home too long so his wife is divorcing him and he misses a child’s important event. Of course, when he’s about to go home another mission pops up that derails his plans of making it to his daughter’s school graduation. Saw that coming from a mile away.

I’ve seen this type of theme done right, though. Have you seen The Covenant yet? Fabulous movie with a similar good guy behind enemy lines theme. If you’re debating whether to watch one or the other, go with The Covenant. I was very impressed with Jake Gyllenhaal. Less predictable and just when you think the story is wrapping up, there’s a whole other part unraveling.

If you’ve seen Kandahar, chime in with your thoughts below.

The Hyundai Commute Commercial – Pardon My French Music, and More.

“Pardon my French!” That’s what people say to excuse the use of swear words. Swear words are what drivers say to excuse their tempers in heavy traffic. The latest Hyundai commercial has all of that along with a possible solution. Take a look then scroll down for more details!

The Music. It’s the perfect use of a French song when most of the drivers on those crowded roads and highways are cussing up a storm (conjecture on my part). How much French needs to be pardoned during rush hour traffic, anyway? The answer is a lot (more conjecture). Here’s the song in the commercial. It’s from 2015 and it’s called “La Fête Noire” by Flavien Berger.

Mother Trucker. I’m guessing that nothing makes drivers want to cuss more than being stuck in long lines of traffic. Well, either that or being stuck behind slow drivers. But for the first pet peeve, Hyundai’s commercial definitely reminds us all how annoying commutes can be. I’m not sure if the commercial leaves viewers in a ticked off mood (reminding us of annoying traffic and commuting) or generally happy (with a solution to the traffic problem) but most of the comments I found on YouTube are the former. Nobody likes sacrificing quality of life (time at home, with family, NOT in traffic) for wasted time driving into work, that is if they can be just as productive outside the office setting.

If you must commute, Hyundai has the solution. Of course, that solution will cost you dearly. If you have $25K laying around, buy one and let us all know if it makes you happy while you’re commuting to and from work. Thanks ahead of time!

Has College Football Already Peaked in 2023?

We’re already into week 2 of college football, even though, technically, it’s the 3rd week. Whatever. Last weekend I was most looking forward to Colorado vs. TCU and boy, did it live up to the hype. Neon Deion might be the MVP of the whole college season. TCU was favored by 20 points (or somewhere around there?) but LOST to Coach Prime and the Colorado Buffaloes. Television ratings were so high that it was the most watched sportscast of the day. Is anyone surprised?

Buffalo in Texas.

The next game was the only matchup that featured two top-25 ranked teams. Florida State wrassled with LSU but by the time the last whistle blew, the Seminoles had definitively dismantled the Tigers. This made my entire family happy, so I was happy about that. FSU jumped to #4 (from being ranked #8) and LSU dropped to #15 (from #5).

The last game that had an upset was actually kind of embarrassing for Clemson University. Not because Duke isn’t good. Duke IS good. But Clemson on the other hand… besides having Will Shipley, they literally have nothing going for them. In fact, Will Shipley is easily their best player (and one of the best in college football). But if you’re running back is your best player, you’re in trouble. Clemson is in trouble this year. The funny thing about this game is that Duke was winning 6-0, then Clemson scored on a fluke set of circumstances. Even before half time I said that as soon as Clemson scores again I’m going to bed (because it was late and I’m old and Clemson will probably score and keep scoring into a blowout). I ended up watching the whole game because CLEMSON NEVER SCORED AGAIN. Those goofballs. Now they’re just barely hanging on to a spot in the top 25 (dropping from #9). Is it safe to say Clemson’s college football dynasty is over?

I’m not sure if any college football weekend will match the excitement of last week but even as this post goes up, Colorado is on the field and later today could have an upset of Texas over Alabama. Fingers crossed. 😉
