Why This Chic-Fil-A Couch Commercial Irritates Me

I’ve seen this Chic-Fil-A commercial a few times now and the more I see it the more irritated I become. At first pass, it’s fine. A dad, a daughter, a helpful Chic-Fil-A employee. But if you break the story down, you’ll probably understand why it’s a tad on the irritating side. Here’s the commercial then scroll down for my take…

I’ll start with the only positive thing I can extract from this: I applaud the sentiment behind the ad. As consumers, it’s generally a nice thing to be helped by employees of the business we’re trying to do commerce with.

But they must be kidding to think this story is remotely as altruistic as they let on. I have a very hard time believing no one in the drive-through, the employees, or anyone else involved was not just a little PO’d that this man is crying in the drive through, wasting time while people are trying to get their food fast because they have they’re own drama going on. Everyone’s in a rush because it’s lunch time.

I understand that the employee in the ad wants to help. She’s trying to be encouraging but my guess is that deep down, she’s trying to keep the line moving. She’s thinking, “The faster I can get this weeping father outta here, the better.”

The ad itself is a little weird, too. A dad FaceTimes his daughter then proceeds to hand the phone to the Chic-Fil-A employee who’s never met this girl in her life. Maybe I’m not very compassionate or social, but if I were that employee I don’t think I could care less about FaceTiming a call with a random guy’s random daughter who I’ve never met and will never be friends with after the random moment her dad came through the drive through at my random Chic-Fil-A in Midlothian, Virginia.

Am I just being insensitive? What am I missing here?

Loving in pieces

I was attending a small worship service at a small church in a small city when I heard this song for the first time. It was Brentwood Baptist Church at a Tuesday night gathering called Kairos. The city… Nashville, Tennessee. OK, nothing about Brentwood, Kairos, or Nashville was small back then. A big worship service at a big church in a big city. But the song, on the other hand, starts small. Stays small. Then gets BIG. Real big.

Listen to this powerful worship song from Amanda Cook back in 2015.

It’s a wonderful reminder that in some respects, God is not complicated. His offer of love is full, whole, complete, and for everyone. He doesn’t love us “if”… He loves us… period. A great message in 2023.

Genesis Commercial – The Music and the Logo

There’s a luxurious new car commercial from Genesis. I’ll admit, whenever I see a car with the Genesis logo I always wonder if that’s the model of the car or the brand. But whatever the case, here’s one of their latest commercials. Scroll down for the song info and more!

The song in the commercial is “Boomerang” by Yebba. Here’s the full track…

Do you like the commercial? How about the song? Thanks for stopping by, check in every day at 1pm for a new post.

Having two senior dogs is stressing me out!

Hello there! Are you fellow dog companion person? I have a nearly-14-year-old and a 12-year-old and lately it’s been stressing me out! I recently brought them to the vet for their annual check-up where they had heart tests and one got scheduled for a surgery. That plus different meds for both, allergies, and elevated numbers for something I don’t remember, I’m a little discombobulated about having 2 aging dogs.

After the surgery, my one pup has to wear a cone for 2 weeks. From the first day, though, she’s actually been SO compliant, a great patient. She’s pretty much accepted that it’s part of her new life, but it will be a grand day when she doesn’t need to wear it anymore.

The first day seemed to last 76 hours but once we got through the learning and the medicine routine, the time has really flown by. I think we’ll manage to do well getting along together and keeping on our adventures!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle… in real life!

The other day my sister and I saw a turtle under her car. Since I’m *so* amazing and kind, I said we should move it to the nearby woods. It looked like a regular turtle you’d see in a lake. A slider, I thought. I’ve been round long enough to know they are pretty docile, not aggressive like snapping turtles, so I got a shovel and crawled down next to the car. The plan was to nudge him onto the shovel then carry him safely to the tree line. That was the *my* plan. The turtle had something else in mind. It must’ve sensed my defenses were down.

Almost as soon as I had the shovel in place, the turtle practically jumped around to face me and proceeded to rush at me! I haven’t been that startled by wildlife since this life-threatening encounter at a state park in Florida. I skinned my arm on the car and tweaked a muscle in my left shoulder. Since when do regular turtles attack!?

As it turns out, this fella had some offensive weapons of his own. Take a look at the claws in the pics below. I think this is either a painted turtle or a terrapin. Any experts out there know what we’re looking at here?

Next time I’ll think twice about messing with a teenage mutant ninja turtle!
