The Music of Indeed’s “Brighter Days Ahead” Commercial

I would never have expected Indeed to have a commercial featuring music I like. I guess that might be more of a reflection on me than a reflection on the job search company. But here were are about to watch a commercial with some great music as the soundtrack! Take a look…

The inspirational song, one even may call it a gospel-inspired song, is called “Brighter Days” and it’s by an artist who goes by the name GSharp. Here is the full track.

The DJ Actress and the Dancer in the Liberty Mutual Commercial

Liberty Mutual has been releasing ad and after in this seaside location with the statue of liberty as the backdrop. In fact, I’ve written about the “seagulls” ad here.

excerpt of the “Seagulls” blog post.

Now Liberty is back with a DJ remixing their jingle. Check it out…

Who’s that girl? The actress playing the part of ‘DJ Liberty’ is Alondra Lara. Find her on Instagram here. You can also find her comedy reel on IMDB here. She has a few projects already under her belt and is an accomplished VoiceOver artist.

Who’s the dancer? The guy performing the classic robot dance is Josh Breeding. A quick look at his resume can be found here. He is also in a MegaMan-inspired band called The Megas. More on them here.

Music in the Kohl’s New Holiday Ad – (Hint It’s Not Dolly Parton)

*click here for part 2 – a follow up to this Kohl’s holiday post*

In 2020, Kohl’s delighted viewers with their Christmas commercial featuring the music of Willie Nelson. Check it out here. Now, their back with a brand new holiday ad that might give you the same fuzzy feelings as their last one. By the by, if you need a holiday gift this year, look no further than my children’s books Big and Small, God Made Them All and The Brave Bamboo, available online. Personal info aside, here is Kohl’s sweet commercial!

The Music. If you’re like me, you would’ve been absolutely sure this was Dolly Parton singing. But alas, we’d be wrong. The singer is Ane Brun, song is titled “From Me To You.”

Ane is a Norwegian singer/songwriter. You can find this track on her 2013 album, “Rarities” and find it on Spotify here. Her website is anebrun.com. Her social channels are as follows…

Twitter @AneBrun

Instagram @AneBrun

YardNYC is the agency behind this ad, and also produced the one mentioned earlier from 2020. Keeping with an apparent theme, last year’s commercial was titled “Give With All Your Heart,” and the 2021 installment is called “Dance With All Your Heart.”

Does this ad get you in the holiday spirit? Comment below, and (if it’s not too early to say this) Merry Christmas!

I used to do this when I watched scary movies…

Whenever I watched scary movies as a kid and I was frightened, there were two things I did consistently to help me feel less scared. This will sound totally random, I’m sure, but please do leave a comment with how you coped with the fear in movies like Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or The Shining.

I thought about baseball. In my young mind, there was nothing more safe, more comforting to think about, than America’s pastime. It was a reminder that things in the real world (as opposed to the world created in the movies) were safe and good. Baseball, and sports in general, was a place where guys threw a ball, tried to hit, smiled, laughed, did amazing things athletically, and there was no threat of harm. That usually helped me feel so much better.

Then, sort of as a joke but it also helped me in a weird way, was to think of a scary movie this way. When the character was in a dangerous situation, perhaps all alone but being chased by someone or something, buddy up with the camera guy who was there filming the story. It was as if the character, who might appear to be alone, was actually never alone because there was someone there — the camera person. That comforted me in two ways… the fact that there was someone there, and reminded me that it was all make believe, since it was a movie being filmed by that camera person.

And just as I’m typing this I’m also reminded of soap operas on TV. It always seems like there is drama, chaos, and danger in these little towns where the stories take place. I often thought to myself, “Why don’t they just move to a different city?” All their problems solved!

How do you escape the fear created in movies and on TV? Are you able to keep it in check, remembering that it’s all make believe? Let me know in the comments below…
