TikTok’s baby hippo ad is ruining the cuteness of baby hippos

I can’t find the TikTok ad anywhere but if you’ve seen it, you know exactly what I’m talking about. It seems to pop up a lot when I open up a YouTube video. Here is a screengrab.

It’s a short spot for TikTok and all it shows is a cute baby hippo. That’s great, but something else is totally ruining the cuteness of baby hippos for me.

How cute is that baby hippo!? Where TikTok ruins these cute “little” guys for me is the music. Of course, the above video is NOT the ad, which I can’t seem to find anywhere and I am determined not to get on TikTok to find it. But maybe I will.

The music they use is so annoying. The first couple of times was fine but as soon as I hear the first note now, I immediately tune it out.

Have you seen the ad when you’re about to watching something on YouTube? What do you think about it? Is the music annoying or am I just crazy?

Another ultimate wasp battle!

The other day I wrote about something I did twice. It was a new door handle that I bought at an estate sale, months later dropped off at a thrift store, then a week later realized I needed it and had to buy it back. I’m not the only who has done this right? RIGHT??? Well, there is another double double that happened recently. And again, I was on the losing end.

I was determined to kill a wasp flying around in my carport. Which is against my nature, really. Just read this from another wasp encounter a couple of years ago. My advice based on experience: don’t use a broom. I slapped the wasp with the broom which, because the broom isn’t firm, just made the wasp made. Next thing I know the wasp is diving towards me and it stung me right on the forehead. As I turned to run, it dove down again and stung me on my lower back.

My head hurt for maybe an hour, but my back pain lasted for days! It became tight and sore.

That little rascal was winning 2-0, however it cost him his life. When he was stinging my back I was able to smack him with my hand just out of reaction from the pain. He spiraled to the ground where I could finish him off. But for the rest of time the final score will be wasp – 2… and me – 1.

GOSH I HATE LOSING.

I lost twice, of course. Once to the door handle, and then to the wasp. What’s next, I’m not going to be drafted by the Tennessee Titans??

Hobbies that have been on the back burner

Every day I think about a couple of activities I enjoy but haven’t had the chance to do in a while. I have written about one of them a lot… and the other has made it on the blog a few times (I think?). Any guesses on what I might be talking about?

The two hobbies I enjoy are…. photography and playing a trumpet!

One of my favorite photographs lately, find more here!

Other priorities (like… work, for instance) have required me to shuffle photos and music to the back burner, unfortunately. I understand that things like that have to happen sometimes, but I am eager to get back to photography especially. If I’m being totally honest, I miss that a lot more than I miss the trumpet. I think it’s because my skills with the trumpet are pretty low! It’s fun to play, but frustrating when I can’t get a particular note.

I’m sure I’ll get back to both in the near future, as soon as things slow down a bit. Like I said in previous posts, I’ve been on a major purge in my house, getting rid of all kinds of things from childhood stuffed animals and college 8mm video tapes to couches and chairs. It’s been crazy the last couple of weeks. Isn’t it weird to find things in the attic you haven’t laid eyes on in over a decade? That’s a good sign it’s time to get rid of that particular thing, don’t you think?

Do you have hobbies you miss taking part in? If so, what are they? Let me know in the comments below!

The Subway commercial where white people save the day!

Subway is out with a star-studded commercial that promotes their new line-up of sandwiches and ingredients. Take a look!

I don’t want to be a party pooper or anything, but did you notice how white people swooped in and basically took over the ad? How dare they! First white-and-purple Megan Rapinoe takes over for Serena Williams. Then white Tom Brady interrupts Steph Curry to finish out the commercial. In total for this 30-second ad, white people were on screen for 17 seconds and black people for just 7 seconds. Note that Charles Barkley does the voice-over that lasts about 7 seconds.

“In wokeness we trust” must not be Subway’s new slogan, even with outspoken liberal Rapinoe, but certainly this ad could use some… refreshing. 🙂

Now obviously dissecting this ad to say it’s insensitive is a bit over the top, but you would think Subway would have tried to err on the side of political correctness, right? In other words, swap the roles and have Serena take over for Megan, and Steph interrupt Tom. Then the commercial would win some kind of Pulitzer peace prize.

How do you feel about the ad? Do you think anyone will be triggered by it? Share in the comments below!

Who buys the same thing twice? This guy!

It started like any normal day. I woke up had breakfast, then everything unraveled!

Okay that might be a little dramatic, but you know how I have been purging things in my house? Well, one of the things I got rid of was a brand new door handle with keys. I found the unopened package at an estate sale, and thought it would be good to hang on to in case I ever needed to swap a door handle out.

I didn’t really need it so I brought it to a local thrift store. Then a few days later, of course, I needed it.

So I went back to the thrift store and bought the item I donated. Sounds like a once in a lifetime circumstance, right? Nope. This isn’t the first time I’ve bought the exact same item twice.

And who said decluttering wasn’t fun!?
