It’s Election Day and Insanity Reigns

It’s Election Day and I can’t sleep. But this restlessness isn’t because of the choice we Americans are making today- electing Kamala Harris or Donald Trump. I’m awake this early because of an interval workout that starts in about an hour. You might think I’m insane for waking up at 5am to go run and I would ALMOST agree with you. One common definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. So this interval workout actually ISN’T insane because I expect different results. I’m getting faster. If I were going to the track each week but not becoming a better runner, then yes, I’d be insane. Plus, it would suck to miss out on a couple more hours of sweet sleep.

When I think of insanity, though, I think of people who support Kamala Harris. They keep voting for the same type of candidates (like Hillary Clinton, Tim Kaine, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Tim Walz) but expect different results. One of Kamala’s slogans was “turn the page” yet she’s been in office since 2020! In other words, she’s asking you to vote the same way you did in the last election but expect a different result. She said it herself: she wouldn’t have done anything different from Joe Biden in the last 4 years. She’s insane and anyone voting for her today expecting a different result is insane, too. Sadly, most of the Democrats don’t understand that to end the Trump era, they actually need to vote for Trump today. Otherwise, he’ll run again in 2028 and their nightmare will continue!

Today is an important day. Go vote, otherwise you’ll be missing out on the opportunity to NOT be insane… you can do something to spark different results. It’s our privilege as Americans and I’m hoping we can turn the page on the last 4 years of the Biden Harris insanity.

Should Florida Abolish Daylight Saving Time?

No. The answer is no. Of course, the way the title of this post is worded isn’t leading you to the point I want to make. But it was the shortest way to try. Daylight Saving Time shouldn’t be abolished. It’s the one Floridians like: When clocks go forward an hour so the sun rises around 730am and sets around 8pm (in the summer, at least). But what needs to be ended, never to happen again for ours and future generations, is what happens in November: Setting clocks back an hour which is the annual end of Daylight Saving Time. If you want to leave a legacy for your kids, forget humility, kindness, empathy, faith in God… give them this one gift.

I’ll add a personal anecdote to drive home my point. Other than the fact that you know deep down (this is a safe space, so just admit it!) that something’s wrong when the sunset is at 430pm. One of my dogs, bless her heart, wakes up at 430am to eat breakfast. Wait… bless MY heart. I’m the one suffering here! We can get into “why” and “how” and “what gives!!!” but let’s just not. I don’t have the energy to be shown that it’s actually my fault. Somewhere in our 15 years together I caved and now she demands, nay COMMANDS me to serve her a meal at 430am. So guess what happens when Daylight Saving ends? Now she gets up at 330am for breakfast. AND GUESS WHO WAKES UP TO FEED HER?

Dogs have no clue what Daylight Saving Time is and they’re right. This should be a stain on American history we only read about in books. Like the Buffalo Bills in the 1990s. Tell me this… how am I going to be able to slowly withhold breakfast a few minutes later each day until we’re back at the normal (still too early, though) time for feeding?

It’s ludicrous. A task only reserved for the elite dog whisperers.

Florida, get your head in the game and make Daylight Saving Time permanent!

The Walmart Holiday Commercial with the Mom From Fresh Prince

Walmart has a cozy commercial for this Christmas season… along with practically everything you could ever think of to buy for the people you love. A couple of things that stand out from this commercial are the stars and the music. Before we get to that, here’s a little refresher, then scroll down for more!

The Mom. The spot opens with a woman receiving a Walmart package. Do you recognize her? It’s actress Vernee Watson, or as I remember her, Vy Smith: a scared mom who sent her son to Bel-Air after he got in one little fight. There are other star actors in the ad, too. You probably recognized Chevy Chase, Agnes from Despicable Me, SpongeBob, Lauren Graham, and Bart and Marge Simpson.

The Music. The song in the ad goes back half of a century. It’s The Temptations with “I Want A Love I Can See” from the 1960s. Great use of a song that highlights what Christmas means to a lot of people, showing love we can see by the gifts we give.

Walmart is usually one of the first to swap their merchandise to holiday-related goods so it makes sense that they’re already showing a Christmas commercial and we’re not even to Thanksgiving yet! Have you seen other Christmas commercials this season?

The iPhone 16 Lazy Coworker Commercial – Is AI Making Us More Lazy?

I was just telling someone about my first memory of being ticked off when someone cheated at something. I was in middle school during P.E. class and we were assigned the task of running laps around the track. A classmate made sure the teacher wasn’t watching then cheated by cutting across the field. I burned inside when I saw this. He and I became friends later and he was a fine person, but I’ll never forget how I felt in that moment. I despise people cutting corners, cheating to get ahead.

Introducing the latest iPhone commercial. It appears as though my cheating classmate has been hired and now he’s your coworker! Take a look at his inattentiveness and immaturity only saved by Apple Intelligence bailing him out for what won’t be the last time.

The Music. This song has been used in a portfolio of Apple iPhone commercials. It’s called “Genius” by musician/rapper Krizz Kaliko (@krizzkaliko).

People won’t need much convincing that Apple Intelligence is awesome because the human race generally always will take the easy way out. Instead of thinking critically and coming up with something original and creative, we’ll leave that to the robots. There is an upside, I suppose. A tool like AI can help in situations where the user isn’t able to do things that phones and apps require. It can save time in creating images and text documents. I think the key is, as a friend said, make it work for us not us working for it. Although she was talking about a food delivery app. 🍔🍟🍕

How do you feel about the commercial? What are you hopeful about when it comes to AI? Do you have lazy coworkers (if you see Justin from middle school, tell him I said hi!)? Chime in below…

Pepsi Pizza Commercial with the C8 Corvette – The Music, and More

It’s a YouTube-undercover-boss-trick-stunt-candid-camera-type commercial screeching into our lives with a slick Pepsi Corvette and a few unsuspecting pizza delivery people. Take a look then scroll down for more about the ad…

The Music. The rally song for this commercial is “STARTAFIGHT” by Joey Valence & Brae. Here’s the full track from 2022.

A Breakdown. The Pepsi people are trolling the pizza deliverers in the most literal way. But with good intentions, of course. And you know they’re right. Even if it’s not a Pepsi (I prefer root beer or Dr. Pepper, but that secret is just between me and you), pizza and soda is probably the second best combination anyone’s every thought of. The first best is peanut butter and jelly, obviously.

The ad campaign started in September and is airing alongside Pepsi’s Gladiator 2 promos.

What do you think about the commercial? And what about the C8 Corvette? Chime in below…
