Posting a blog every day for a year

Some of you may know I’m attempting to write up at least one post every day for the entire year and so far I haven’t missed a day. In fact, there have been a handful of days where I posted twice in a day. That might come back to bite me but so far so good!

Biggest challenge:

There was a week recently where I was not sure I’d keep up with my goal. It came down to writing something the very same day I’d post it. To make that make sense, a lot of my posts are using the “schedule” setting on WordPress. So let’s say I write two posts in a day, I can schedule them to post on whatever day and at whatever time I choose. That’s really nice when I’m in a zone and can whip out a few posts in a short amount of time. But when a dry spell comes around, I still need to make sure all the days are covered and that’s where it got dramatic a few weeks ago.

Biggest success:

The most successful posts of this year are usually about music or TV. For instance, a post uploaded about a Bebe Rexha song celebrating 2020 graduates has drawn a lot of traffic and the same can be said for a post listing songs and movies with “mask” in the title. Clearly that one is directly related to the coronavirus pandemic so in a normal year that one wouldn’t be as sought out as it has been in this crazy year.

My advice:

If you’re trying to post often, I have 2 thoughts that might help you be productive without getting disheartened or burnt out. One… don’t always write long posts. It’s OK to have posts with a few thoughts or even a gallery of photos with a short explanation. Two… write about what you enjoy. If you’re constantly writing about things you have no interest in, that will get old fast. Whatever excites you or interests you, those topics will be the most enjoyable to write about.

I appreciate every single person that stops by to read any of my posts, I’m excited to bring you many more before we ring in a new year 🙂

Thanks for stopping by…

well, ant that somethin’

Ants. Frustrating creatures when they’re INside your house. But OUTside, quite fascinating. I came across this little fella as the sun set a few evenings ago. I’m really loving taking close-up photos, if you haven’t noticed in my posts, lately. 🙂

Meet Andy the Ant.

2020 if it were a spider web

I stumbled upon this spider web the other day and thought it was fascinating through a lens at a very close range. As I post this today, I now think this complicated sticky mess is a very good example of 2020 so far. But not to get all philosophical, let’s just enjoy the artwork of this masterpiece. 🙂

Eye nose what you did last summer

I nose it’s not summer yet, but here in Nashville it’s warmed up (finally!) so the dogs and I have been outside a lot. Here are a few pics of the pups and their adorable eyes and noses. You know what they say about beagles, right? A beagle’s nose never has a day off.

Dixie To Go: Boo Boo Ninja commercial

I recently wrote about the Walgreens commercial featuring Bebe Rexha and the celebration of 2020 graduates (click here for that) so I’m back with another ad I really like! Research shows this one actually came out in 2016 to promote the Dixie cup brand.

I loooooove this commercial! It’s really fun and cute, and the editing style is perfect for a quick ad: strong, decisive cuts, but with content full of drama, heroism, and great sound effects… all successfully displayed in under 15 seconds. That’s not easy to do! Check it out and then scroll down for the only criticism I’d mention if I was being nit-picky.

The final shot of the young boy watching in awe was a great touch, too. To speak about one possible revision… I’m compelled to think it’s an ad for band-aids. The voice-over is crucial because to watch it without sound, my guess is you’d DEFINITELY think it’s about band-aids, or skin ointment for scratches and cuts. Or even worse, we might not have any idea what it’s about.

What do you think? Did you like it? Does it leave you with good feelings about Dixie brand cups?
