Burger King Needs to Go Back to the Throwbacks – A Commercial Review

These Burger King commercials have got to go! “Beeee Kaaaayyyy have it your way…. YOU RULE!” This is the biggest lie of the year because if I ruled, like they claim, these commercials would be rotting at the bottom of the ocean along with this Sprite commercial! Even if they brought on a chuckle the first 10 times I saw them, the ads have been so overplayed. It’s sickening. But did you know they’re a throwback to commercials from the 1970s? Scroll down for more about that!

Besides the singer’s voice grating on my nerves, the worst part of this whole campaign is that I find myself singing the jingle throughout the day. Their marketing team probably calls that a win, actually. But it just makes me detest the commercials even more! The “whopper whopper whopper” version of the campaign might be the worst of them all, so I’m sorry for including it below.

Go Back to the Throwbacks. If they’re going to revive a jingle from the 70s, at least have good singers, right? Check out these ads from the mid-70s. Notice how much better these women sound. I could watch these over and over, instead of the watered down B-version in 2023.

I’ll also admit that Burger King has one of my favorite commercials featuring a family of burgers. The kid wishing he had never been broiled is a classic line…

I wish the new “throwback” commercials had never been broiled but as the clichΓ© goes, it is what it is. Do you love the new ads, or do you want to toss them out with last week’s leftovers? Chime in below and I’ll see you tomorrow!

I might be obsessed

I guess I go through these waves of things I enjoy. For instance, the time when I rode my friend’s bike and then I absolutely had to get a bike. Click the link to see the ultra cool bike I bought, and still have, and I ride it almost daily. I love that bike and it’s been about 2 years since I first laid eyes on it.

Only recently has this new idea swept over me kind of like wanting a bike did years ago. It started a few weeks ago when my niece got roller blades for Christmas. I thought they were cool, and soon she and I were rolling around the neighborhood, her wearing her roller blades and me pushing a small pink scooter. And it’s funny because one day we rode past a neighbor. He’s got a big white mustache, scraggly but long white hair he puts in a pony tail. He drives a van with no windows. I assume he’s an old Vietnam vet. Imagine what he thinks when he sees this grown man rolling by on a girls Razr scooter. Of course, his opinion may not change if he sees that same grown man roll by on a pair of roller skates.

I promise I’m not gay. Don’t go casting me in a TurboTax commercial.

But I really, really want a pair of skates. I even narrowed it down to the brand and style. There’s a set called Chaya Mocha and I MUST HAVE THEM. The thing is, I can only find them on backorder for my size. I’m trying to be patient and I’ll write up another blog if I can get my hands on them.

They look great, don’t they? Actually Chaya has another color in the same style but I gave up on that pair a few days ago. They’re white with blue and red stripes, but I don’t think anyone has them in my size and from what I can tell they stopped making that color combo.

Who knew finding men’s skates would be so difficult? But I’m determined.

Acura Precision Electric Vehicle – The Commercial Music, Hulk Hogan, and More!

This is the first electric vehicle commercial I’ve seen from Acura, although *technically* they don’t have an EV yet. Looking at the fine print of this commercial shows that the car shown is just a concept, kind of like the Chevy EV commercials where all but one are not even available yet! Here’s the ad, then scroll down for more info…

The Music. Backing this electric car commercial is the electric guitar from legend Jimi Hendrix. The song is called “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)”. Here’s the full track…

Hulkamania. I had already stopped watching WWF/WWE wrestling when Hulk Hogan reemerged as Hollywood Hogan (circa 1997), but evidently it was a big deal for the wrestling organization to get the licensing rights to the Jimi Hendrix song and use it as the theme music for Hogan. Here’s one of his entrances, and I gotta be honest… it makes me love Hulk Hogan all over again. “That’s right, brother!”

In this video, it’s confirmed that the song rights were purchased for $100,000 for worldwide use for a year. Probably one of the best decisions made by the WWE organization in regards to what it meant for fans and fan loyalty.

Back to the Acura commercial, do you think the song will do for Acura what it did for WWE and Hollywood Hogan? I doubt that’s even possible, but kudos to Acura for picking an iconic song from an iconic entertainer. Now, if they can just get those vehicles made in real life! πŸ˜‰

Top 10 Bird Photos

I don’t know if there’s been a more true statement than this meme I came across recently.

I must be old then, because when I’m camping or just walking around outside, I am looking up A LOT. I want to see all the birds! Sometimes I’m prepared with my camera strapped around my neck and then I can get some photos of these birds (unless birds aren’t real). Hope you enjoy these photos as much as my ancient self enjoyed photographing them!

Toyota Crown Commercial – The Music, the Driver, and More!

The Toyota Two-Tone* has made it’s way to TVs across America, it’s a new model called a Crown. I’m assuming you’ve already seen the commercial but if you need a refresher, here it is. Scroll down for more info about the music, the driver, and more!

The Music. The “royal” music playing along with clips of the Crown is a song called “Watch Me Stand Out” by Club Yoko. Here’s the full track…

Side Note. Club Yoko has music in another commercial from back in 2020. It’s this ad from Microsoft.

The Actress. Driving the Toyota is actress Nikiva Dionne. You may recognize her from TV shows like “S.W.A.T.” or “A Million Little Things.” She’s got a hefty resume which you can check out on her IMDb page. Also, if you’re an Instagrammer, her name is @NikivaDionne. She shared a fun behind the scenes video from the shoot, take a look.

*Two-Tone is not the name of the car, but careful research shows that the Crown comes in a variety of colors, whether you want the red/black two-tone or a solid color. It looks like a nice car and it ranges in price from upper $30s to mid-$50s.
