Band names… what were they thinking?

Sometimes the band names are so bad, it’s hard to tell which is the band, the song title, or the album title. Example below.

Know what I mean? I saw the one pictured above at the gym and I refuse to look up more about this band/song/album. I refuse to give in to their attempt at a clever band name. If you had to guess which was the band, which would you pick? Honestly, either of the 3 could be the band, song, or album!

A quick glance at the iTunes “All Categories” chart, the artists making up the top 20 all have clear band/artist names and I think there is something relevant about that. Most fans don’t want to be confused on which is a band name or a song title, right?

Here is another REAL band name:

Are there bands that make you wonder how they came up with their band name, and more importantly why? Chime in below with your least favorite favorites.

Ironically, study finds blondes not offended by dumb blonde jokes

U.S. — Many thought in today’s cancel culture society that blonde jokes would be the next to go, but as of the day of this publication, blondes are not yet aware they should be offended. A study conducted by the University of Alabama in March showed that out of the 100 blondes registered to take part in the research, only 17 found the correct building and even less, 8, found the right room.

Researchers quizzed the blondes on various topics with questions like, how many of you use white out to correct something you’ve typed on the computer? If we drew a circle and told you to sit in the corner, where would you go? You need to dial 911. Where is the 11 button on your phone?

Data collected during the study will be used to help bring awareness to a growing problem in the country. Another study is scheduled for brunettes later this month, with speculation that being a “dumb blonde” is not limited to the color of a person’s hair. Adam Granger, an analyst involved in the research, says, “We’ve seen a fascinating decline in overall intelligence with the rise of things like the TikTok app, xx, and yy.” He also stated a specific study for redheads was not something they are willing to do because, in his words, “You do NOT want to piss off a redhead.”

One of the world’s most famous blondes has chimed in on the subject of dumb blonde jokes, so we will leave you with her thoughts.

I’m not offended by dumb blonde jokes because I know that I’m not dumb. I also know I’m not blonde.

So you’re thinking about dating online…

I’ve written about the ups and downs of dating online, most recently a list of surprising profiles. But what you’re about to see might top them all. It’s 100% real. Well, I take that back… on MY end it’s 100% real. I have no idea what was happening on her end, and I 89% do not want to know. For you married folks reading this post, be grateful you don’t have to deal with stuff like this… although, it definitely made me laugh. This is just a snippet of a conversation I was having with a woman I connected with before one message sent it into a weird place. My side of the convo is on the right, highlighted in purple.

….so naturally I asked what exactly he meant, haven’t heard back yet. Poor Steph Steph, all locked up and no place to go.

So if you were wondering what online dating is like, now you know. It’s the wild, wild west, and also it’s like a box of chocolates.

Hard to believe it’s been 6 years…

…since I was laid off in epic fashion. It would have been like anyone else getting laid off except earlier on the day I was called into the office for the “talking to,” I was in a courthouse being interviewed for jury duty. Not only that, I was working in television and that same day I had jury duty selection was a shoot day. Click that link up there to read the rest of the story.

All this went down and I couldn’t help but think the people left to do what I, and others who were laid off that day, were hired to do that day are heroes. Specifically one person who I won’t name had to do the work of 3 or 4 people that day, and for the days and weeks following. I’m sure he did it and did it well because he’s just that kind of guy, but I hope they paid him extra for the burden they put on him.

I have called myself “self-employed” since then and so much has happened that wouldn’t have if I was still with the company. I think being laid off is one of the best things that’s ever happened to me, at least in a work profession sense.

To list all the adventures and twists and turns that have gone on… well, I can’t remember it all but I’ll list a few.

I published 2 children’s books.

I went to the Bahamas with 2 of my nieces.

I went to the Bahamas again with brother and 3 of his kids on a Christian mission trip.

I’ve been able to visit family in Florida pretty much whenever.

Went to Missouri with my brother for a week, for two summers.

I DIDN’T have jury duty, the judge had compassion after I told him I was laid off during the jury selection lunch break

Went on a road trip to the east coast, then down to Orlando.

I’m with my pups a lot more than when I worked the normal “9 to 5” job.

I have delivered for Amazon, Postmates, Uber Eats, and helped my neighbor with tons of projects that are usually pretty fun.

I’m sure there is a lot more but those are just a few I could think of off the top of my head. Click on the ones that are highlighted for more about each adventure. I don’t think I will be going back to the typical desk job anytime soon because I really have enjoyed working mostly from home and being able to set my own schedule.

Thanks for stopping by!

Back when I didn’t know who Queen was

I usually like individual songs, not researching the band who performs them or entire albums from where they come. Such was the case when I was just a wee little lad and knew of a song called “We Will Rock You.” Who performed it? I didn’t know. What album it was on? I didn’t think to ask. I just liked the song.

The band is Queen. Or WAS Queen, depending on how you feel about the current group with the addition of Adam Lambert. I love most of the Queen songs I hear or have heard. But when I was little, I simply didn’t think past the music.

This has happened quite a bit, I’m sure, but the two other band I can think of off hand that came into my world the same way are U2, and The Head and the Heart.

U2. Very similar to Queen, there were songs I loved growing up and then only learning who the band was years later. One of the first I loved from U2 is “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” I remember hearing it on the radio as a child and loving it, but also not really knowing why because I was just a young kid. I guess it was the melody, or something.

The Head and the Heart. As an adult in Nashville, I listened to Lightning 100 a lot before I got SiriusXM. Over the course of a months and maybe years, they would play certain songs that seemed to vibe with me more than others. Eventually I looked one of them up (“Shake”) and found that the band was The Head and the Heart. Then my mind was blown and very pleased to discover they are the band behind many of the other songs that I was vibing with. So they became a favorite and they are still one of my all-time favorites.

Circling back to the beginning of this post, there’s a use of a Queen song in a TV show that is my top favorite of any Queen song in a movie or show. It also may be my favorite of ANY song by ANY band in a show or movie. The song is “Save Me” and it was used so perfectly in a scene of New Girl where Schmidt witnesses the love of his life get proposed to… and she says yes.

Great, great, great scene.

Anyway, are there bands you loved before you even knew they were a band? Comment below with which one and let’s chat about it!
