Non-compete clauses at Burger King?

This was over an hour-long SNL skit, right? Yesterday Joe Biden gave another State of the Union Address, and just like my favorite kind of movies it had drama, humor, action, and all the thrills a room full of old people can muster up. In fact, more than once Joe commented on how old everyone in the room was. Isn’t that kind of the problem, these days? It’s why “term limits” is something most people, whether liberal or conservative, support. New blood, as the phrase goes.

Aside from calling everyone old multiple times, Joe Biden had a handful of odd comments and even more unintelligible words. I guess that’s not really surprising, not nearly as surprising as his comment about eliminating oil altogether. He said we’ll need oil (for cars) for at least another decade. Ten years! I can think of things I don’t even like that are going to last longer than ten years, much less something as integrated into the fabric of America as oil. This MUST be a comedy sketch. That’s why his proclamation was met with the loudest laughs of the evening, coming from those that know the use of gas vehicles isn’t going anywhere. Isn’t America about free will, choice, and competition? If someone wants to buy an electric vehicle, that’s awesome. If someone else wants a gas-guzzling 4×4 Chevy, go for it. I believe so strongly that the government should NEVER tell us what we want and how we want it. Biden (and most liberals in the media) seem to think otherwise. Of course, the Democrats love looking for someone to be their daddy, so none of their delusions surprise me anymore.

And speaking of competition, Biden said a person working in fast food can’t go across the street and work for a competitor because of non-compete clauses. Um, what? Never heard of that. I wish he’d said that Burger King needs to pull all their “Whopper, whopper” commercials, for this reason and this reason alone.

There’s a lot to pick apart from this “how we’re doing” speech last night and some news stations and YouTube channels will be all about it… but, as my mother pointed out, it sounded more like a campaign speech. If this is the beginning of his 2024 campaign, America is in for a rough ride the next two years. My only hope is that people tuned in long enough to listen to the rebuttal from Sarah Huckabee Sanders. If Biden’s words brought about hopelessness, hers were the refreshing hopeful words we needed to hear.

Democrats can only blast “old, white men” for so long before the rest of America realizes Democrats elected the oldest, whitest man to be President. If they make up rules for everyone else but don’t follow the rules themselves, why are there any rules at all? But also, be sure to not sign that non-compete thing all you fast food workers!

My favorite independent YouTube hosts

Ahead of tonight’s State of the Union Address, I thought you might be interested in checking out a few independent thinkers who host great YouTube channels. While every single thing Joe Biden says tonight will be predictable and boring (with things like “The state of our union is strong,” and “The economy is booming,” and “My administration has done better than any other before this”… like every president has said in every address), these YouTubers think freely and critically, call out bull crap, and explain how things ARE… not just how we’re TOLD they are by the elites in Washington and Los Angeles. So here’s a list of my favorites. These are in random order so first on the list is just as good as the last on the list!

The Comments Section with Brett Cooper Brett Cooper is a young actress with her finger on the pulse of American culture. She covers everything from politics and TikTok influencers to gender fights and celebrity news. This is a video blog style channel where Brett reviews other videos and adds her 2 cents from a young woman’s perspective. Refreshing!

Odins Men Mainly focusing on the cringe and wild side of TikTok (trans people, liberal nuts, etc), the host offers a logical response to the crazy stuff presented in the TikTok videos. He plays the videos, but will pause them to respond. He shows emotion, so when he’s annoyed you’ll know it and I appreciate that! In addition to that and to clarify, he doesn’t overreact but he’ll use his words (I know, that’s a foreign idea in 2023) to explain why he thinks the videos are absurd.

Don’t Walk, RUN! Productions This channel is primary focused on politics and I’m always very impressed with the depth of research presented as they make their points. For instance, if Joe Biden references some rule or law we’ve never heard of, this channel will find it and explain it in context. Level-headed and not worried about calling out the hypocrisy in Washington, DC.

The Officer Tatum Mr. Tatum is the most animated (well, it might be a tie between him and Russell Brand) and offers a great perspective on politics and American culture. He is conservative and if I can be honest, makes conservative look cool. His catchphrase “Let’s get into this” is something I’ve caught myself saying because, well, it’s catchy. I believe he’s a Christian, too, so he’ll talk about how crazy things are in society from the perspective of a conservative, a man, a Christian, and/or a husband.

Russell Brand This one has surprised me the most in the last year or so. Russell Brand, who was once married to Katy Perry if that helps paint a picture for you about him, is an actor and I think he was once pretty liberal. Actually, he might still be liberal but I’m very impressed with his knowledge of American politics and his ability to sift through the BS to expose what’s really happening. He backs up his thoughts with news articles, quotes from politicians and leaders, and he’s downright entertaining. I find myself laughing as he reacts and dreams up stories about how conversations might go behind the scenes. He’s great.

Michael Knowles Michael Knowles is part of the team at The Daily Wire. The videos I watch and enjoy the most are the ones where he reacts to a music video, dissects a video from AOC, or just generally decimates the hypocrisy from the most left leftists. His presentation is calm but assured with sprinkles of humor, and great editing I might add.

Zeducation Tyler Zed does meme reviews, things didn’t age well, and generally just reviews absurd things found in society and on the internet. Similar to Brett Cooper, it’s is a vlog style channel with clever editing and lots of humor. Tyler is a young guy who knows a lot about what’s popular with those in their 20s and 30s (reddit, 4chan, whatever that is), and he offers a conservative perspective on popular culture.

Watching the 2023 Grammy Awards

I fully expected Trevor Noah, host of the show, to have a joke about conservatives and Donald Trump just about every other sentence but somehow he managed to only include one in the first 30 minutes of the show. Honestly, it’s so refreshing when a music awards show focuses on the music. What a shocker! Resisting a Trump roast must’ve been as hard as Michael Scott not saying “That’s what she said,” after a perfect setup from Jim Halpert.

I didn’t watch the entire show and after seeing some clips on Twitter, I’m grateful I missed the devilish Sam Smith performance. But from what I DID watch, I loved the appearance of Stevie Wonder along with Smokey Robinson, Chris Stapleton, and four young men singing background vocals. As soon as I can find a link for it, I’ll include it here.

The tribute to those in the music industry who passed away in 2022 was pretty special, too. Oh, and I can’t forget watching the Brandi Carlile performance. I’ve loved her voice for many years! In fact, she has a song on my top 5 songs of all time list (“The Story”). I love music, I always will.

See you all tomorrow…

Smear the Queer

Funny how societal rules go in circles, isn’t it? Case and point:

When I was in middle school, a lot of kids boys my age played a game called “Smear the Queer.” If you don’t know what it is, it can be easily explained by saying that there were a group of kids trying to tackle whoever was carrying the football. It was a game a lot less harmful than how the name sounds. Actually, looking back to my middle school years, there were a few things said and done in school that would never work in 2023. Not that anyone back then was offended but it should be noted that in the game, pretty much ever guy WANTED to be the queer.

It wasn’t until some time later, two decades or so maybe, that the term “queer” became derogatory and there was a wave across the entire country eliminating that word from conversations. I guess it came across as being offensive.

Fast forward another decade or two and the rules seemed to have changed again! Round and round we go, huh? Now queer is back and I guess it’s OK to say. After all, there was even a hit cable show called “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” and if you come across a blue/pink/green/purple-haired person, chances are they will identify as gender-queer, whatever that means. It reminds me of when saying gay became offensive (just a few years ago). But when Florida drew up a certain bill which was given the slang phrase, “the don’t say ‘gay’ bill,” liberal people lost their minds and were using the word every chance they could. Rules change… again!

I guess I’m just tired of society in general. I should clarify, though. I’m not tired of people I know or new people I meet. I’m tired of the loud, obnoxious ones on TV and in the media. It’s almost as if they keep stoking the fire just to watch it all burn.

See y’all tomorrow…

Are you an early bird or a night owl?

I remember deciding a while back that I’m neither a morning person or a night owl. Now, though, from years of having to wake up for a 9 to 5 job, my body pretty much wakes up around 7am every day no matter what. How unfortunate! I still don’t consider myself a morning person but then you’d think that makes me a night owl. Well, maybe in my 20s, sure. Possibly in my 30s too, but now in my 40s I’m pretty much OK if I’m in bed before 10pm. When I was a teenager and in my 20s, I didn’t know old people didn’t give a hoot! I kinda like not giving a hoot.

I had a friend many years ago and even though he was in his 20s, when our group of friends would hang out, at a certain hour of the late evening he’d always say something like, “I”m fading.” Back then, I’d never admit it (even if I was getting very sleepy) so I admired him for telling the truth. But like I said, now in my 40s I turn things down somewhat often if they haven’t started or been going since 9 or 930.

So how about you? If you had to pick staying up till midnight every day for the rest of your life but you can sleep till 9, or you can go to bed at 9 but have to wake up at 6 every day, which would you choose?

I also heard there’s a certain age when a person starts caring about bird-watching. People in their 20s don’t notice birds like people in their 40s and beyond. It’s true for me, too. Two decades ago I couldn’t even tell you there were different types of woodpeckers. Now I get all giggly when I see a pileated woodpecker and a red-headed woodpecker on the same day!

See you again tomorrow…
