Posting daily at 1pm central about all kinds of things. One day it's dating, the next it's TV commercials. I hope you're entertained. Professional photos on SmugMug – https://benwilder.smugmug.com
IKEA has a few commercials that are bending the senses, including this one with the buff bears. The latest is one called “Let Play Unwind Your Mind.” It’s a creative take on letting work take a backseat to quality time with family and friends.
The Music. The song in the ad is “Shook” by Raja Kumari. It was released in 2018. Take a listen to the full track below.
Hello! My name is Ben and I’m camping at Myakka River State Park for a few days. I have a travel trailer that’s literally my mobile home. This state park adventure can be summed up in three words: wildlife, windy, worn-out.
Wildlife. This park, out of all the state parks I’ve been to (which you can read about on my Camping Stories page), has the most diverse wildlife I’ve experienced. In just a couple of days I’ve seen alligators, a roseate spoonbill (pink bird pictured below), wild pigs, hawks, owls, deer, turkeys, and swallow-tailed kites (also pictured below with the big split tail feathers). I also met a photographer who’s great at capturing owls and other wildlife. Check out Dillon Ogle’s Instagram for some sweet photos – @dogleswildlifephoto
Windy. My site is near the edge of a big prairie. I was in the trees but the nice (and strong) breezes make it into the camp and provide a relief from the heat. It also gives the birds something to float in, so that’s a win!
Worn-out. I mentioned overexerting myself in the post a few days ago, writing about the alligators at the park. I hadn’t planned on becoming so exhausted but while I was biking to the alligator bridge, I specifically remember thinking, “I need water, I’m so thirsty!”
It wasn’t just a mild thirst, either. I was dehydrated. I had jogged a couple of miles, walked the dogs a few times, biked many miles back and forth to see wildlife, and didn’t pay attention to what my body was needing… water and rest. So this led to the exhaustion and feeling like I had some kind of sinus infection.
Overall, this park is great for anyone wanting to see Florida’s wildlife! Just know that the park is huge so getting to the different areas (lake, river, bridge, restaurant/cafe, boat ramp, etc), you’ll be using a bike or car a lot. Here are a few pictures of my time here.
Acura has released a series of ads featuring a new Integra model and a rapper named Vince Staples. Here’s one with a floating car, which reminds me a lot of the movie Arrival.
Here’s the full track in case you want to take a listen.
Does the floating Integra remind you of the invading alien spaceship in Arrival?
Another arrow in Acura’s Integra quiver is this ad featuring the song “Slide.”
And rounding out the trio of ads is this one called “Lemonade.”
The Integra hasn’t been manufactured since 2001. One of the last commercials produced must’ve been this one showing what looks to be a very accurate recount of what happens in Vegas 9 times out of 10. Still more fun than being attacked by aliens, just sayin’.
Do you think the remodeled Ingetra will have a strong showing in the small coupe /car market? Do you like the ads geared towards younger car buyers? Chime in below!
KIA has embarked on a new ad campaign showing people doing good in the world. One of these ads seemed to backfire (according to reviews on YouTube, Twitter, etc) as it showed a guy driving rather swiftly around a beach collecting trash with a homemade rake attached to his KIA. Here’s my recap on that ad. Their latest commercial shows a bi-racial couple (which Joe Biden would be shocked to see!) strategically leaving raincoats around town during a rainstorm. Take a look…
The ad is clearly saying more about the type of person who buys a KIA rather than the Sportage SUV itself. We see that a lot with Subaru, too. Neither brand gets into the nitty grits about a vehicle but instead show people doing charitable or fun or adventurous or kind things and they just so happen to drive that particular brand of vehicle. In this case, the KIA people are delivering jackets to wet people. Realists would say that anyone with an SUV (or a car with a big trunk) could do this jacket dispersement deed. Doesn’t need to be a KIA. A few comments point out the fact that the jackets are hanging out in the rain, so they’re most likely already soaked, which wouldn’t really help someone who’s also already soaked.
I came up with a few other reasons this ad may not go over well. 1. You know people who DON’T need those jackets will be snatching them right up… because they’re free. Exhibit A, Goodwill shoppers. 2. Bridges. Why not hang them under a bridge or somewhere they won’t get so wet? Not to mention, most of the people needing those jackets should be under cover (like a bridge?) when a storm as brutal as the one shown in the ad! 3. The day to donate jackets to people who need them is NOT the day of the storm. How about do this in the days or weeks before the rain hits?
How do you feel about the ad? Does it make you want to go out and by a KIA, even with their new poorly designed logo?
As many of you know, I have 2 pups. Piper is 12 yrs old and Asia is 11 yrs old… as pictured below. For their entire lives, up to last October, they only knew one place as being “home.” It was a house in Nashville, Tennessee. But since then we’ve packed up and through a whirlwind of events, live in a Gulf Stream Vintage travel trailer.
They seem to love it but it’s Asia that has really become a dog that always has FOMO. I guess I have a pattern when I start to pack up and prepare things for our next trip because immediately she has that fear of missing out and she’ll go everywhere I go. Well, either that or she’ll jump in the truck and lay in the back, just watching me gather things and get ready.
It’s awfully cute! They should know, though, I’d never go anywhere without them! They’re my buddies and to steal (and modify) a line from a great book, “The Art of Racing in the Rain,”….
You’re real good friends, Piper and Asia!
