Fitbit Commercial for the Self-Identified Quirky Characters of Society

Hello and thanks for clicking on the blog today. I write and post every day at 1pm central about all kinds of things, including commercials. For more info on new (or old, depending on when you’re reading this) TV commercials, check out my Popular TV Ads page.

The newest addition to the page is about a series of ads from exercise-fitness-sports-tracker-data brand Fitbit. In these ads, they’re encouraging users to “Feel Your Power.” They’ve called on folks with niche fame (influencers on various platforms) like Petey, Leah V, Nor Diana, and Marc Rebillett.

Here’s one of the ads, then scroll down for more info about these folks…

Petey is a TikTok star and a musician. Here’s his Fitbit ad followed by the music video for a song called “California.”

Leah V is a plus-sized model and an author/influencer.

Nor Diana is “Phoenix” in the wrestling ring, seen (not wearing a Fitbit) in the match below.

Marc Rebillett is an electronic artist… who wants you to WAKE UP! And I guess he wants you to wear a Fitbit, too.

If you identify as just a normal black, white, Asian American, Native American, etc., I guess you’re just supposed to get a Garmin? Spoiler alert: Garmin’s are better anyway 🙂

The Masked Singer, a Ken Jeong fail?

Everyone and their mother are writing about Ken Jeong walking off set after Rudy Giuliani was revealed as the singer in the Jack-in-the-Box costume on the most recent episode of a show I don’t watch.

Thursday morning.

We didn’t see Robin Thicke walking off set (although he did). We also didn’t see the female judges walking off (because they didn’t). And speaking of things not seen, I didn’t see 99% of the show but caught the end when comedian Ken Jeong said, “I’m done,” and walked off stage. It definitely came across as serious, but I wondered if I had missed a joke?

I really only have two questions. (Answers at the end of this blog)

  1. If the singer was a political figure who most people think did worse things than Rudy–for an easy comparison let’s pick a known liberal, Hillary Clinton–would Ken have walked off stage?
  2. I heard a line from a guy on YouTube, saying something like this, “When I hire a plumber, I don’t really care about his political views. I mostly care about how good he is as a plumber.” In other words, when someone wants Ken’s political opinions, won’t they just ask him? Till then, stick to acting.

Robin Thicke walked off stage too, but they didn’t show that because he hasn’t been relevant in ten years. And if Ken Jeong ever read the lyrics of Robin’s hit, “Blurred Lines,” would he walk away dramatically, too?

Ladder Insurance Crocodile Commercial – The Stuff Nightmares Are Made Of!

It took me forever to see an alligator after I left Nashville and moved south, but finally, I saw one. And now I can say I’ve seen a crocodile, too, except that it’s not in real life, thank goodness! The croc is bundled up in a bed waiting for a midnight snack in this Ladder life insurance commercial. Scroll down for more info…

The Credits. Creative agency Fred & Farid are credited with the idea for this ad and it was directed by Casey Storm. Lots of the production credits can be found here.

The Nightmare. When I a young kid living in south Florida, I often had nightmares of alligators chasing me. Kind of like sharks, I still, as an adult, have a healthy fear of them but also a fascination. While I don’t think a crocodile or alligator in your bed is as threatening as, say, a moccasin snake, this crocodile ad is going to ruin my sleep tonight.

It might also keep me from dating. Who wants to marry someone that only wants your life insurance money? 🙂

American Idol: My Top 3 for 2022

It’s a little late in the game to be picking my top 3 but for someone who hasn’t watched American Idol in years, this is progress. Give me some grace here, people! I still wonder how the show is still on air and while I can’t speak for the previous handful of seasons, the cast of the current season is darn good. However, I’m not sure narrowing down from 20 to 14 was that difficult for the judges. Except for one or two, finding the six to go home was pretty much obvious. For the fourteen that remain now, here’s my list of who will make the top 5, along with who I predict to win it all. I’ll also go ahead and predict a woman will win this season.

14. Emyrson Flora

13. Christian Guardino

12. Jay Copeland (Judges voted to keep in top 14)

11. Allegra Miles (Judges voted to keep in to 14)

10. Huntergirl

9. Mike Parker (Judges voted to keep in top 14)

8. Fritz Hager

7. Tristen Gressett (Judges voted to keep in top 14)

6. Leah Marlene

5. Nicolina Bozzo

4. Dan Marshall

3. Noah Thompson

2. Lady K

1. Ava Maybee

KIA’s All-New Sportage Beach Commercial – The Music, The Actor, and More

KIA is back now with another commercial showing cute little turtles. Take a look then scroll down for more about the ad… and for KIA’s latest ad recap of guy saving a city-dwelling tree, click here.

The Music. This piano heavy track hasn’t been easy to identify. I’ve narrowed it down to two, though. Do you think it sounds like one of these?

“Daddy Fired the Doula Again” by Speedy Justice

“Blackness Zone” by John Flow

The Driver. The actor driving this brand new 2023 Kia Sportage is actor/model Charlie Wilson. He’s also in the news with some juicy info… he’s rumored to be dating actress/dancer Julianne Hough.

The Location. I can’t confirm or deny, but from what I’ve researched and read, this was filmed at St. Augustine Beach, Florida. Kia has also committed to donate to Sea Turtles, Inc. based in Texas. This organization exists to help rehabilitate injured sea turtles.
