Big Sky has turned into a big disappointment

I was one of those people fully onboard for ABC’s Big Sky. Season one was really good with a mix of drama, humor, and mystery. They had a villain we loved to hate (actually, two villains with Ronald and Rick Legarski). The chase for Ronald had me tuning in every episode, even when season one was split in half with quite a bit of time between the two halves. On top of that, I enjoyed finding out what music was used in each episode.

Then season two came along and I was mostly giddy with expectation. Where’s Ronald? Will they finally track him down and be able to keep him custody? Was the second half of season one just a fluke? You might be wondering what I’m talking about with that comment. Well, when they came back to finish season one, there was another storyline introduced, taking us away from the undivided attention on Ronald. It was weird. It was weird and rather uninteresting. This new storyline was about a random family with major issues, and no one who was likable. It was not a good part of season one.

So back to season two… Ronald is still out there, now kept captive by Rick Legarski’s odd brother Wolfgang. This is where I’ve almost lost all interest in the show. The storyline going in this direction, with Ronald in some home tucked away in a forest is just weird. And they introduced another storyline that has some interesting things going on, I guess, but it’s just not enough to keep my attention much longer.

Along with the weird direction they took Ronald’s story, the series is doing what it did in season one for season two – taking a few weeks (or a month? I never know when it’s back on TV) off for a reason I haven’t figured out. Plus it used to be on Tuesdays, then it switched to Thursdays, and just last week there was something tied into the live shows of Different Strokes and Facts of Life. I didn’t care to figure it out because like I said before, I’m just not interested enough anymore to keep following along with the constantly changing calendar and the random storylines.

From what I can see, ratings are on the decline and in last night’s episode (which I didn’t watch because I had no idea it was on!), it was at the bottom of the list, only having a higher rating than a couple of shows on the CW. Not something to brag about.

So my guess is the show will be going away sometime in 2022… as in, cancelled. Unless they get things going with Ronald again, and with that some drama and action, it might be best for us to disconnect ourselves from the show and any characters we’ve grown to like, then find something more interesting to watch.

Why do we have a Christmas “Eve”?

I was wondering the other day why we have a “Christmas Eve”? Then, only a few days later, it’s another “eve” to celebrate a new year. There are 11 federal holidays, so why do only 2 get eves?

If I had to guess, I’d say Christmas gets an “eve” because there’s just too much excitement for one day. Because, generally speaking, Christmas Day is such a happy and celebrated occasion, all that joy just had to spill over to the day before. New Year’s Day might have a similar reason, except that the excitement isn’t about the day particularly. It’s more about the ending of a year and a fresh beginning. A brand new day, a brand new year. Anything is possible.

Both Christmas and January 1st have a lot of anticipation building up to them. No other holidays have nearly as much excitement for their coming. I mean, when’s the last time Walmart started selling stuff months ahead of time for Labor Day?

I also learned that Christmas Eve, throughout history, was the beginning of the celebration of Jesus’s birth. This goes way back to early Jewish faith and the Bible talking about a day being evening, then morning. It is also believed that Jesus was born at night, so there could be a tie-in with that, as well.

No matter the history of these two “eve” days, at least they are both positive experiences for the majority of humanity. It’s not like there’s a gigantic-future-of-mankind-and-everything-changed kind of mistake associated with them. Thanks a lot Eve and Adam!

But seriously, if there is any deeper meaning, it would be that there’s the exact opposite of a mistake on Christmas Eve. More accurately, it’s a gigantic-future-of-mankind-and-everything-changed kind of hero born for us.

Merry Christmas!

Putting the RIP in RipStik

So this happened the other day. Right out of a scene from a horror film, right? It reminds me of Scream, or is it from I Know What You Did Last Summer? Either way, this poor RipStik never saw it coming. I take that back. He definitely saw it coming, but with wheels up, there wasn’t any way to roll outta there in time. #RIP

We performed CPR but it was too late. His mom the hoverboard and his dad the skateboard were both notified of his passing. A funeral was held where, in lieu of gifts, attendants were asked to donate ball bearings to ripstiks in need.

Thanks for stopping by!

Publix Christmas Commercial – The Actress, The Snowman, and More!

At this point, can we all just admit Publix knows how to make commercials that pull every single heart string? They do it time and time again, like this one, that might be the cutest ad I’ve ever seen. Then they created original music for this Thanksgiving ad, it’s a beautiful song called “I Remember This.”

But let’s focus on Christmas, shall we? Here’s the heartwarming commercial airing this holiday season, called “The Attic.”

Who’s the actress? This adorably caring little girl is Wynter Glenn. She’s a young actress represented by Bartlett-Carter Talent Management. Although her acting resume is just beginning, she’s been in a couple of short films and could have a bright future if she sticks with it!

The creativity. The ad was created by by 22Squared, Inc. so a big kudos to them for putting tother a great Christmas spot.

The snowman. We don’t know much about why the snowman is stored in the attic, collecting dust for months and months. The only hint we get is when the neighbor, an older man, flips through a photo album. A picture garners our attention of a man and his daughter. Is it his daughter? Granddaughter? We don’t know exactly but there’s something tying that photo to the snowman. Perhaps it’s just that he became bitter and Scrooge-like until his Christmas spirit is once again awakened by the cookies left on his doorstep.

Publix knocks it out of the park again with this ad. A sweet moment reminding us to, as they say in the ad, “give someone a reason to believe.”

Thanks for stopping by, and merry Christmas!

I always hurt you

I had a very vivid dream about an ex-girlfriend recently. This is the first dream I pinched myself, during the dream, specifically just to make sure it was real. It’s just so crazy to me how real dreams can be. She and I were standing in a parking garage and I thought to myself, “This must be a dream but I’m here. She’s here. This is real life.”

I was carrying an egg (because why not carry an egg, right?) and I said something about hearing that she got married. She responded with, “Not yet.” Then I went on to tell her how I feel about her and she responded positively. She didn’t want to marry the other guy and she wanted to be with me.

I thought to myself, “This is my partner for life!” We walked to the main road, out of the parking garage and she ran ahead. It was raining. To have some fun, I threw the egg on the ground in front of her so it was splatter and mix in with the puddles of water around her feet.

Catching up to her, I noticed she had a cut on her finger. It turns out that part of the egg shell broken from the impact on the ground hit and cut her finger. I was so apologetic and she said something like, “Dude, it’s ok.” I responded with, “I always hurt you.”

This had a deep meaning because flashing back to real life (not in the dream), our relationship was hindered by the way I treated her towards the end of it. So when I said the thing about hurting her, it wasn’t about the physical injury from the egg shell.

But she was fine and our future together was in the midst of a new beginning.

Then I woke up.

I guess today is one of those days where I feel like I’ve taken a step backwards. Because she’s married. I haven’t seen her in years. On the day I found out she was married, I laughed. It’s not how I thought I would’ve heard the news, but it was a funny moment between a friend and I over lunch.

Sometimes I wish I could just stay in those dreams a little longer, I guess.
