I guess I’ve been binge-watching this show…

Tiger King. Game of Thrones. Narcos. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Friends. Seinfeld.

Folks are binge-watching all kinds of shows since America has been shut down. For me, with only one streaming service (Hulu), I’m pretty much caught up on shows I want to watch, including current shows with episodes being added each week (Last Man Standing, LegoMasters, Shark Tank, Siren). Recently I came across a show that lasted 8 seasons back in the 80s and 90s. It first aired in 1986 which would make me 7 years old at that time. Perfect timing for a show Stranger than Stranger Things…. yes, I’m talking about Perfect Strangers!

Remember Cousin Larry and Balki? I can’t believe the show is 34 years old. I’m in the middle episodes of season 2 and I’ll admit, I’ve laughed quite a bit. There’s something charming about how the world was so different then, with the obvious differences being the use of land lines instead of cell phones, and no internet. TVs are as big as cars, and cars are as big as houses. I’ve also noticed a handful of jokes and themes based on what or who was popular at this time, so that’s amusing, too, but not for the reasons originally intended.

If you’re searching for something family-friendly, with humor, and a lot of episodes 30 minutes or less, give it a shot! Afterall, do you have anything else going on? Don’t be ridiculous!

How Famous Men Sleep in 2020

About 10 years ago I posted a list of the sleeping positions of a few famous folks. Some were based on characters in TV shows and movies, and the rest were about real-life people. You can check that list here. I’ve decided it was time to update the list! So in 2020, here’s a list of famous men (John Krasinski, Donald Trump, Post Malone, and more)  and the positions I believe they sleep in at night. But first, the list of various positions:

SLEEPING POSITIONS…

sleep-patterns2

Fetus position – tough exterior but are still sensitive and may appear to be shy but warm up quickly.

Log position – social, easy-going person who is trusting, sometimes to the point of being gullible.

Yearner position – open-minded and still cynical, suspicious, and stubborn about sticking to decisions once they are made.

Soldier position – reserved, quiet, without fuss, and hold themselves and others to a high standard.

Freefall position – brash, outgoing, and very uncomfortable with criticism.

Starfish position – good listeners, helpful, and uncomfortable being the center of attention.

FAMOUS MEN…

John Krasinski (Actor) – Fetus or Log (tough exterior yet sensitive, social and easy going)

Donald Trump (US President) – Freefall (brash, outgoing)

Joe Biden (Former VP of US) – Fetus or Yearner (sensitive but cynical/stubborn)

Post Malone (Entertainer) – Fetus or Soldier (tough exterior, high standard)

Jimmy Fallon (Entertainer) – Log (social, easy-going)

Louie Giglio (Pastor of Passion City Church) – Soldier (high standard)

Sean Connery (Actor) – Soldier (reserved, high standard)

Tom Hanks (Actor) – Log (easy going)

Denzel Washington (Actor) – Soldier (reserved, high standard)

Jose Altuve (MLB Baseball Player) – Starfish or Fetus (uncomfortable with attention)

Please know these are all just educated guesses. I have no solid information on how these men sleep so I’m basing this information on their public persona. Check back soon for a list of how famous women sleep!

When the “roll” is called up yonder

When the rollllll is called up yonder, I’ll be fine. Folks, I was half of a toilet paper roll away from having a new normal when I use the restroom. I was even regretting that I didn’t take the opportunity to steal from my sister! STEALING TOILET PAPER!!! Each time I went to any store (Kroger, Dollar General, Sam’s Club, etc), the two-ply tissue worth it’s weight in gold was nowhere to be found. Shelves… empty. But Whole Foods came through for the win. My heart thanks you, and my tooshy thanks you, too!

“Because He Lives” – unforgettable worship Easter 2020

Do any of y’all remember this song from the old hymnal days?

IMG_20200413_093226~2

The song was written by Bill and Gloria Gaither back in the 70s. As a young child in the 80s, this song was part of my Baptist church upbringing. In fact, one church I attended would sing this song every Sunday to end the service, and we’d reach across and hold each other’s hands as we sang. Good memories!

Well, I’m 99% sure this online rendition of the hymn will be my top favorite musical performance from the coronavirus quarantine this year. And on top of that, it’s worship. Take a look at part of the Easter service from Passion City Church in Atlanta, Georgia.

Enjoy the music, the message, and maybe take a chance on trusting Jesus today! Comment below with your favorite part. My top favorite part? Easily it’s when the baby says “Amen!” halfway through the video. 😉 PS. The song starts at 52:15

Thank you Passion City Church, Crowder, JOHNNYSWIM, and Tori Kelly! Click on their names to find them on Twitter.

Jesus, The Risen 1k -aka- The Empty Tomb Trot (3 years running)

Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. Both were running…

That’s from the book of John, chapter 20.

For the last few years, I’ve made a point to run/walk what I think is the same distance they travelled that morning. More on the distance and how I came up with 0.75 miles can be read here. I’ve been calling it the Jesus, The Risen 1k but after a great idea from a friend, it’s now also called The Empty Tomb Trot 🙂

Today I was torn because I wanted to run as a symbol of this blessed morning, but also, it’s 56° and raining sooooo yeah. Before I started the run, one of my dogs, Asia, hinted she wanted to come along.

Asia in the morning

She didn’t know how wet it was going to be. Look at the screen shot below to see how far we made it before she was like, “Nope. Not happening.” Yeah, .05 of a mile. She basically went to the mailbox and back!

In her defense, I can be little bossy while we’re running, so maybe she just wasn’t in the mood. Either way, I was doing this one alone. While I ran, I thought about the experience from the perspective of Mary and the disciples. Running through town, dodging food carts, grabbing their clothing so they wouldn’t trip over it. In the rush of the moment, did they think to even put on their sandals? Was one of them thinking, gosh I shouldn’t have eaten such a big breakfast? How far off were they when the large stone covering the tomb entrance was in view? They must’ve had a million things going through their minds until they got to the tomb… and then…. Yes, it’s empty. But how? Where is His body? What in the world is happening?

Running this distance in my neighborhood helped to give me a more vivid picture of that morning for them. The sound of feet pattering on the ground. Adrenaline. The town just waking up and people out for their morning errands. In just a few short minutes everything they ever heard Jesus say becoming more clear… and His words, His life, His death, His resurrection, changing the course of history forever.

What a beautiful morning.
