One and Done? – A Dating Story

For any of you who need a catching up, click here for part 1 of this story. Picking up where I left off, our date ended with a hug and mentioning a second date. This first one was about an hour long (I’m a big fan of coffee dates as a first date). It’s just easy to end it quickly if needed. It’s also easy to extend it, if wanted.

After we parted ways I went on to the rest of my Friday night activities. Saturday morning was a slow wake up, followed by saying good morning to the pups and hello to breakfast. Would I hear from this woman today, or would I reach out first? Only time will tell.

The morning came and went. Hours drifted by and after lunch, I spent time with family and ran a few errands – Christmas shopping.

All of the sudden it was mid-afternoon! She must’ve forgot to message me, that’s it! I hadn’t heard from her, so I figured it was a good time for me to say hello. I messaged her through the dating app asking if she’s had a good day. What do you say after a date, you know? So I expected a short response where she said she had a good day or a busy day or a lazy day. Something. Anything.

Time, again, drifted by and I hadn’t heard back. I checked the app. What happened next was a bit of a shock.

She closed our conversation! What!? Was our date THAT bad to not even warrant an “I’m not interested, goodbye.” This abrupt ending surprised me. I couldn’t help but laugh. But the laughter turned into feelings of anger and pity. Maybe I’m just aiming too high.

It’s not like I expected her and I to get married, I already knew we weren’t destined for that. Maybe she was even more sure than I was that it wasn’t going anywhere. Nonetheless, I am happy I went out with her. I needed to get out and spend time with new people. I haven’t made a lot of new friends here since moving a couple of months ago… and I’m ok with that! But it IS nice to have a few opportunities to be social.

Back on the horse, I go. Hoping I don’t get bucked off again!

La Brea – is it as good as I was hoping?

I wasn’t sure I’d like it, but I’m hooked. I’ve been watching on Hulu and I’m almost finished with season one. In spite of not believing time travel is ever going to be possible (because if it was, where are the future people coming back to our present time?), and being a little confused on the logistical issues posed by the plotline of the show, it’s really grown on me. I want the folks who fell into the sinkhole to find their way out. I want the families to be reunited. And I can’t figure out if the daughter with the prosthetic leg is a really good actor, or a really bad one.

All in all, I’m glad I gave it a chance. Usually I’m not into sci-fi this this one doesn’t go overboard, which was one of my complaints on lost. They kept throwing in stories and situations that 1. didn’t make sense and 2. were not really ever explained.

This show is softening the blow of realizing Big Sky isn’t as great now as it was in season one.

Last first date of 2021?

When it comes to dating, I’m a big fan of meeting at a coffeeshop for the first one. It can be as short or long as either person wants it and there’s nothing that makes it last longer than it should. For instance, dinner. A first date dinner could be great, but if it’s not going well, you’re both kind of stuck there till the dinner is served, eaten, and the check is delivered. Honestly, I’ll probably never do a first date dinner again because of this nightmare.

But this date I’m talking about was set up to be quick because she had a Christmas party at 6pm, and we were meeting at 5pm. Perfect! If it went well, we could set up a second date. If it didn’t go well, we only had to suffer for about an hour.

She and I met at a coffee shop in east Tallahassee. I’m not a picky coffee drinker. In fact, I don’t drink coffee at all so the one thing I always search for on menus is tea. This place had tea but also had sodas they make right there in the shop. I ordered a soda and she ordered some kind of special coffee drink.

It was a warm evening so we sat outside at a picnic table, a few dozen feet from the coffeeshop door. The conversation was OK. Nothing spectacular. There was only one moment where the silence seemed to linger, but it didn’t feel too awkward. The conversation livened up a bit when we got to the topic of past relationships. It may have then stalled a bit when she asked me what my future plans are. “You know,” I said, “I’m not real sure, actually.” My short-term plans were to move to Tallahassee, which has been accomplished and while I plan to travel in 2022, I don’t really have plans beyond that.

Around 6pm we said our goodbyes. It was really nice to get out and spend time with an adult woman. That was kind of my whole reason for asking her on a coffee date, and she was interesting and cute, so that was a bonus. I should also say that we met through a dating app. In other words, we hadn’t exchanged numbers yet.

So the next day I sent her a message asking how here day was going. Then it got interesting.

Check back soon for the rest of the story!

Weirder things have happened

We hear this phrase all the time, but imagine how weird something would have to be that when it happens, you CAN’T say weirder things have happened.

I’m not sure I ever want to be around when that happens, actually, because in this life there is ALWAYS something weird happening.

Another phrase that’s included today is, “crazier things have happened.” But again, there’s got to be something that’s the craziest. I don’t want do know what that is!

What’s something crazy you’ve witnessed before? I posted this for a crazy story, but also I’ll share a weird story. In church one Sunday, I saw a boy and his dad trying to quietly exit a row during the sermon. They seemed a little rushed but I didn’t know why… until it happened. The dad reached around the son and placed his hand over the son’s mouth. In a big explosion, the son barfed. Because the dad’s hand served as a seal, the vomit sprayed out the sides, landing on the faithful church-goers in the seats near him.

Poor fella.

Poor church-goers.

It was awkward. But I’m assuming weirder things have happened.
